F1: Ross Brawn Planning 6 Sprint Races For 2022

- Brawn has been a big proponent of sprint races
- The former Mercedes boss plans 6 sprint races in 2022
- In 2021 he has planned 3 sprint races
F1 hasn't had even a single sprint race but its technical director, Ross Brawn is already planning six races for the 2022 season. In 2021, there are plans for three spirit races with the first scheduled for Silverstone at the British GP. ''Purely in my own head, without having consulted the teams or our commercial group, I think it would be good to do half a dozen sprint races in a season. I don't think a complete season with sprint races is what we want, but let's see how it goes this season first,'' the F1 chief said to The Race.

The last-minute dash at Baku saw Hamilton making an error from P2 which saw him finish outside the points
The fans have warmed up to the idea of a sprint race especially after the last race at Baku which was red-flagged 3-4 laps before the end after Verstappen's crash. This meant all the cars were on fresh tyres when the race restarted and everyone was low on fuel which made for some really exciting racing.
'If it's not a success, we won't push it. If the public doesn't respond to this, then we don't see any reason to do so. However, we will try to make sure that people can see that this has added value, and then we will see how it goes'', Brawn concluded.
Many people are not in favour of the sprint races because of the cost cap as a crash could seriously throw off a team's calculations and could also have an impact on the developmental budget.
