Mahindra Recalls Over 23,000 Scorpios

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) Ltd, India's largest utility vehicle manufacturer, will recall 23,519 units of Scorpio. The company said it will recall the Ex variant of the Mahindra Scorpio for a probable fault in pressure regulating valves. The affected vehicles, limited to only the Ex variant of the car, were manufactured between May, 2012 and November, 2013.
Mahindra said it will identify the affected vehicles, get them examined by its engineers, and immediately replace the defective part free of charge. To put things in perspective, this is the second M&M has recalled the Scorpio in less than a year. It had earlier recalled about 1,000 units of the same Ex variant, manufactured between October and November 2013, for faulty pressure regulating valves, the same concern as the one behind the latest recall.
Spied: Mahindra Scorpio Facelift Spotted Testing
Delving into Mahindra's vehicle recall history, the company had recalled almost 25,000 units of the XUV500 to replace the fluid hose and front power window units of vehicles manufactured in 2011 and 2012.
The number of recalls by auto manufacturers has been growing ever since Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) enforced the voluntary recall code implemented in July 2012. However, this increase in number of recalls is rather alarming and has proferred questions on the safety of vehicles. This trend hasn't gone unnoticed and has led the government to propose a recall policy to decide liability and fines on the manufacturers. A draft policy is said to be in the works and is expected to take definite shape within a few months.
