Volvo's entry-level models in India have seen a major price cut, allowing potential buyers better access to the Swedish brand. The Volvo V40 Cross Country D3 Inscription has witnessed a massive price reduction of Rs. 3,04,000; whereas the S60 Kinetic has received a price cut of Rs. 1,51,000. The Volvo S60 Momentum is now affordable by Rs. 24,000. On the other hand, other variants of these models have seen a price hike starting from Rs. 68,000 going up to Rs. 2.50 lakh.
Volvo Auto India in a statement said that the price hike is due to the recently proposed taxation norms in the Union Budget 2016 on cars across various categories. As for the price reduction, the company conveyed that the improved scale of efficiency have helped the car maker to reduce costs on some of the models, and as a result, has passed on the benefit to its customers.

Speaking on the price revision, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, Tom von Bonsdorff said, "This year's budget has forced us to re-look at the pricing in order to provide the best in class products to our customers. At the same time, we are pleased to be able to offer significant price reduction on S60 Kinetic, S60 Momentum and V40 Cross Country D3 Inscription variants, without compromising on the features and specification levels. Efficiencies of scale have enabled us reduce cost and hence pass on the price discount to our customers."
Having launched the S60 Cross Country earlier this year, Volvo India will now introduce the new V40 and V40 Cross Country facelifts later this year, and will be followed up by the all-new S90 sedan that is expected to arrive around the festive season. The car maker continues to bring its models via the CBU route.
