Volvo EX90 India Launch On August 19

- EX90 made its global debut in 2022
- Offered in RWD & AWD configurations in global markets
- Offers a WLTP range of up to 620 km
Volvo’s flagship electric SUV, the EX90, will be launched in India on August 19, 2026. Unveiled globally in 2022, the EX90 was Volvo’s first EV to sit on parent firm Geely’s SPA2 architecture and the brand’s third all-electric model. Essentially an all-electric alternative to the likes of the XC90, the EX90 is sold in global markets with a three-row seating configuration as standard. However, buyers can opt for either a 6-seat or 7-seat layout depending on the variant.

On the design front, the EX90 does bear some resemblance to the small EX30 EV already on sale in India - the latter arriving a year after the EX90 in global markets. In typical Volvo fashion, the EX90’s design is restrained for an EV. Up front, the Volvo ironmark sits on a blanked-out body-colour grille, while the headlamps feature segment T-shaped LED daytime running lamps that split down the centre to expose the projector headlamps behind them - a unique take on pop-up headlamps. The bumper, too, is devoid of any real drama, with a simple central air intake sitting low on the unit and ventricle-oriented fog lamps sitting below the headlamps.

In silhouette, the EX90 doesn’t stray far from the XC90. Volvo’s typical clean design is very evident along the sides, with a clean shoulder line running the length of the vehicle. As with the EX30, the EX90 features a split taillight setup with C-shaped units on the lower tailgate and a secondary light setup running up the pillar on either side of the rear windshield.
Inside, the minimalist design theme centres around a large 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen atop the dashboard that acts as the nerve centre for the SUV. It gets Google built-in, features 5G connectivity for OTA updates and also runs Unreal Engine. The processing power comes from NVIDIA’s drive system and Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms, which also support the suite of ADAS systems running on the car. Unlike the EX30, the driver gets his own dedicated digital instrument cluster.
Moving to the powertrain, the EX90 is offered globally in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The former features a 92 kWh battery, which is bumped up to 106 kW in the all-wheel drive. In the RWD spec, the EX90 develops 245kW and 470 Nm, while there are two options to pick from in AWD. Buyers can opt for the standard AWD variant offering 335 kW & 670 Nm or go for the Performance trim, which bumps up output to 500 kW and 870 Nm. In terms of range, the RWD has a claimed range of up to 565 km, while the AWD will do up to 620 km. The final specs of the India-bound car are yet to be confirmed.
As for charging, the EX90 supports up to 350 kW DC fast charging with a 10 to 80 per cent charge taking just 22 minutes. A 3-phase 16A charger, meanwhile, takes up to 11 hours to charge the battery to full.
When it arrives, the EX90 is expected to be launched as a CBU and will go up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS and BMW iX.
