Jaguar Lightweight E-Type: The Legend is Reborn

Jaguar has announced to build six new lightweight E-Type cars based on original 1963 model. The company says that these new cars are the 'missing' six vehicles from Jaguar's Lightweight E-Type project, which was started back in February 1963 with an aim to build 18 'Special GT E-type Cars'. The company had built only 12 models, while other six registered chassis numbers are still unused.
To be hand-built by Jaguar, these six cars will have the same specs of the 1960 models, including the 3.8-litre straight-six engine. To reduce the weight of the original cars, Jaguar had used an all-aluminium body and engine block, along with removing exterior chrome accents and interior trim. The Lightweight carried a 114kg lesser weight than the standard E-type.
British carmaker is expecting a great demand for the six Lightweight E-types from Jaguar collectors and historic race car enthusiasts. The first new Lightweight E-type will make its debut later this summer, and more information about the car will be revealed then only.
