Latest Update on Nexon EV

The Tata Nexon EV is the first fully electric SUV to be launched by Tata Motors. Equipped with the company’s Ziptron electric powertrain technology, the new Tata Nexon EV is the first electric vehicle from the company to be developed specifically for private buyers. The electric SUV is offered in three variants – XM, XZ+ and XZ+ LUX, and comes with a standard ARAI certified electric range of 312 km on a single charge. The SUV also offers an efficient high voltage system, fast charging capability, extended battery life, and solid safety features.

To highlight the Nexon EV’s electric nature, the car comes with stylish blue highlights and inserts both on the exterior as well as the interior. The SUV itself comes in three special colour options to differentiate it from the regular Nexon which includes – Signature Teal Blue, Glacier White, and Moonlit Silver. All three options get dual-tone treatment with a contrast roof. The standard features include projector headlamps, LED DRLs, automatic climate control, keyless entry with button start, all four power windows, an electric tailgate, and a set of 16-inch steel wheel rim with EV highlight cover.

The top-end variant gets add-on features like - an electric sunroof, premium leather upholstery, automatic rain-sensing wipers, and automatic headlamps with ambient and tunnel detection. Other features on offer include - 7-inch dashtop touchscreen infotainment system from Harman with 4 speakers and 4 tweeters, smartphone-based navigation, video playback, voice command, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Tata Nexon EV will come with the company's new ZConnect application. The company says that the application will offer 35 advanced connected car features, right from vehicle statistics, remote access, along with safety and security options among others. On the safety front, the Tata Nexon EV offers dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and cornering stability control, along with seatbelt reminder (driver & co-driver) central locking, speed sensing lock, and ISOFIX seat mounts. Also, all Nexon EV variants come with an automatic transmission with drive and sport mode.

The Tata Nexon EV uses a permanent magnet AC motor, which will be powered by a 30.2 kWh Lithium-Ion battery offering a maximum range of over 312 km on a single charge. The IP67 certified battery is designed to operate over a wide range of temperature, in all-weather, and it’s shockproof, waterproof and dustproof as well. The new electric powertrain in the Nexon EV puts out 245 Nm of peak torque, enough to clock triple-digit speeds in 9.9 seconds. The battery can be charged up to 80 per cent in 60 mins using a fast charger while it will take 8 hours to do the same using the home charger that is offered with the car.

The Tata Nexon EV will also come with a dedicated Battery Management System (BMS), which is designed for extended battery life. The powertrain also gets a dedicated cooling circuit in a bid to provide consistent performance in hot weather conditions. In fact, Tata Motors is offering an 8 years/1.6 lakh km (whichever comes early) warrant with the Nexon EV.

The Tata Nexon EV is launched at an introductory price of Rs. 13.99 lakh to Rs. 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) making it the most affordable electric SUV currently on offer. The MZ ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric are currently the only rivals to the Nexon EV, and both are bigger and far more expensive. The Kona Electric is almost Rs. 10 lakh more expensive. The Nexon EV comes with 3 buying options - standard finance scheme, subscription plan (12 months to 4 years), and leasing facility for corporate buyers.

The Tata Nexon EV is a fully electric SUV. There are 3 variants of the Nexon EV and they are XM, XZ+, and XZ+ LUX. The electric range in it has been certified by the ARAI. The range is 312 km on charging it once. The vehicle is endowed with high voltage arrangement that is quite efficient. You will get the fast-charging ability of the car and the battery has a life of extended value. The safety features are also quite significant. The colour scheme of the car is quite alluring to the senses of the buyers. there is this stylish blue that has been highlighted both inside and outside of the car. There are exclusive and special colour options like blue, moonlit silver and glacier white. You will be happy to note the dual-tone treatment and there is a contrast roof. There are projector headlamps, LED DRLs, the climate control is automatic, there is keyless entry, and also there is button start. There are power windows, all four of them. There is one electric tailgate. The rim of the wheel is with EV highlight cover and it's 16-thick steel.

Design

It is essentially the facelift of the Nexon, so you get new headlamps, new grille design, a new teal blue colour and then there are these blue accents which are spread all across the car that are unique to the electric version. But there are more practical changes too like the bonnet has been raised and there are other modifications to make it compliant with the pedestrian protection norms which are likely to kick in in October 2020. Also thanks to the battery pack, the Nexon has gained weight, so the company had to think of not making it obese.

The navigation is based on smartphone and you have video playback feature with a voice command. There is an outstanding Apple CarPlay apart from an Android Auto. The batter has been stationed under the floor but it has not compromised on the floor area. The floor remains flattened and the space remains accommodative. There is ample space at the headrest and the leg area. There are AC vents too but the USB charging point is missing.

There is one sports mode of driving that you will enjoy a lot because it offers 60 per cent torque. This torque is pushed to the motor. It pushes the car forward to give you lots of pleasure. There is this suspension that is modified positively that makes the roughness of the roads feel nothing. It's going to be a cushiony ride for you thanks to the suspension. The gear complex including the rotary one and the reverse has some issues. There are permanent magnet AC motors. The power in them is 30.2 lithium-ion. The maximum range of offer is 312 km after a single charge. The batteries have been enabled to keep performing during varying temperatures.
