The Volkswagen Virtus came as a much-needed replacement for the Vento sedan, and it is one of the nicer petrol sedans you can buy right now. VW offers the car with a 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines. And while the former is offered with both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the latter only get a 7-speed DSG automatic. While we have already tested both the automatic versions of the car in May, we recently got to get behind the wheel of the 1.0 TSI manual version of the Virtus. It’s powerful, refined and fun-to-drive but does that make it the best petrol manual sedan in this segment? Let’s find out.

Volkswagen now has brought in the replacement to the VW Vento and yes it looks gorgeous! The Volkswagen Virtus comes in 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol units, but we drive only the automatic versions of it around the beautiful city of Amritsar to check out if it has the potential to be a game-changer in the segment.

It's the third month of 2022 and we are already checking out the second mid-sized sedan in India after the Skoda Slavia, as a new Volkswagen car takes centrestage to rival the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Replacing the outdated Volkswagen Vento in the company’s line-up is the premium Volkswagen Virtus mid-sized sedan all set for a market debut in May, 2022. The Volkswagen Virtus is based on the same MQB-A0-IN platform that not only underpins the Volkswagen Taigun, but also forms the base for the Skoda Kushaq and the Skoda Slavia sedan. You will also be surprised to know that the Virtus is the facelifted version of the car available in the global market with India being the first one to get it. And so, the spiritual successor of the Volkswagen Vento finds several similarities with its Skoda sibling in terms of design, cabin, features and even powertrain options.
