Audi A3 Sedan Set to Launch Today

Though there will be no direct competitor for the A3 in India initially, it might be a threat for cars priced in the range of Rs 25-30 lakh. The reason why I say this is because of the fact that the A3 will be the cheapest luxury sedan in the country.

Showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, the Audi A3 sedan will finally be launched in India today. Though there will be no direct competitor for the A3 in India initially, it might be a threat for cars priced in the range of Rs 25-30 lakh. The reason why I say this is because of the fact that the A3 will be the cheapest luxury sedan in the country. However, the Mercedes CLA-Class will take on the A3 upon its arrival in India by the end of this year. If priced around Rs 25 lakh, the A3 might eat into the sales of Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata, BMW 1 Series, Mercedes-Benz A-Class & B-Class etc.

Other than the pricing, Audi's image as a luxury carmaker and the frugal engine range are two other factors that go in A3's favour as compared to its rivals. The new sedan will be offered with both, diesel and petrol, engine options in India: the 1.8-litre TFSI petrol and 2.0-litre TDI diesel mated to a 6-speed S-tronic and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, respectively. Both these engines are expected to be as fuel efficient as that of the Passat, Camry and Sonata.
