BMW M4 CSL To Debut On May 20

- New M4 variant will be BMW's third-ever CSL.
- Expected to use an uprated version of the M4's twin-turbo engine
- Will debut at the Concorso dEleganza Villa d'Este
BMW has released a string of teasers of its third-ever production CSL model ahead of its debut on May 20. The new M4 CSL marks the return of the suffix after an almost two-decade hiatus with the last model being the E46 generation BMW M3. Compared to the M4 and M4 Competition the new M4 CSL is expected to be even more powerful, shed some weight and feature an upgraded aero package. BMW will reveal its latest CSL model at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
The teasers themselves give away little detail. The first depicts the nose of the vehicle with the streaking and blurring of the image likely to highlight the car moving at speed. Few details are clearly visible aside from the M4's oversized kidney grille and what look to be overlapping vents on the bumper. The second teaser is a close-up of the BMW badge on the bonnet while the third depicts an illuminated CSL logo. A pair of older teasers show a hazy after shadow of the car in motion and the headlamp of the car illuminated with the rest of the car hidden in shadows.

BMW M has shared several teasers over the past few days building up to the M4 CSL's debut
Spy pictures of the new derivative of the M4 reveal that the car will feature a revised aero package. This includes new bumpers, side skirts and a model-specific duck-tail spoiler. Going by other details on the web, the M4 CSL is expected to be lighter than the standard M4 though its still not known how BMW will achieve this.

On the mechanical side, the CSL is expected to get several upgrades over the standard M4 and M4 Competition to show a more performance-focused character. Reports suggest that the M4's in-line six-cylinder twin-turbo petrol unit will receive a bump up in power in the CSL with the model set to sit at the top of the M4 line-up.
BMW is also reportedly readying to revive the M3 CS in the current generation model with the car having been seen testing on global roads.
