It is that time of the year when almost all the automotive manufacturers in the world set up shop in the beautiful city of Geneva for the famed Geneva Motor Show. 2017 will see the 87th edition of the Geneva Motor Show, which will be host to some of the hottest car unveilings and launches of the year. From an Indian perspective, Tata Motors' new sub-brand, TAMO, has showcased its first ever model at the Geneva Motor Show. 7th and 8th of March, 2017 will be the press days and the Motor Show will be open to the public from 9th March to 19th March, 2017.

Apart from the new TAMO Racemo, Tata Motors has also unveiled the all-new Tata Nexon subcompact SUV and the new Tiago-based sub-4 metre sedan Tata Tigor, Both these car will be launched in India later this year.

In addition to that Suzuki has also unveiled the new-generation Swift hatchback, which will also come to India later this year. That said the car showcased at Geneva is the European-spec version so it will be more feature-rich and come with more powerful engine.

As for other carmakers - Volkswagen also took wraps off the good-looking Arteon at the Geneva show. Built on VW's Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB), the Volkswagen Arteon will be positioned above the Passat. On the other hand, Lamborghini has unveiled the new Huracan Performante as well.

Also making their debut at Geneva this year are the revised Škoda Rapid and the Škoda Rapid Spaceback, the modified Škoda Citigo as well as the Škoda Fabia, which comes with a new 1.0 TSI engine.

The Skoda Kodiaq Sportline's exterior and interior are both characterised by specially designed features and new details such as the sports seats with Alcantara covers. The SUV receives a choice of four engine versions: two TSI petrol engines and two TDI diesel engines.

The two new variations of the Skoda Kodiaq SUV, Scout and Sportline, will also be making their world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show. The Skoda Kodiaq Scout comes equipped with all-wheel drive as standard and receives silver-coloured design details such as distinctive underbody protection at the front and rear and new 19-inch alloy wheels. There is a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines.

The Skoda Octavia Scout gets a new front section with additional headlights and a modified rear. It also sports a ground clearance of 171 mm and receives a choice of three engines: the 177 bhp 1.8 TSI petrol, the 2.0-litre diesel in two different power variants (147 bhp and  181 bhp).

The Skoda Octavia RS 245 with a power output of 241 bhp, is available as a hatchback and a Combi. The car can go from 0 - 100 kmph in just 6.6 seconds and offers an electronically-limited top speed of 250 kmph.

The Jaguar I-PACE, Jaguar's first electric SUV concept, promises to deliver a long-distance range, fast charging times, and exhilarating performance. With plans in place to take Jaguar Land Rover’s three vehicle manufacturing plants in the UK close to their operating capacity, the I-PACE will be manufactured at Magna Steyr’s plant in Graz, Austria.

Project Hero is a bespoke version of the new Land Rover Discovery for use by the Austrian Red Cross. Designed and engineered by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), it features world-first drone technology created to help Red Cross to test new search and rescue drone that can take off and land on Discovery, even when the vehicle is in motion.

The Audi A5 Sportback g-tron is the company's third model that can run on natural gas, after the A3 Sportback g-tron and the A4 Avant g-tron. It is powered by a 2.0 TFSI engine with 168 bhp of power output and 270 Nm of torque. The tank module consists of four very light yet remarkably strong tanks with a total capacity of 19 kilograms. It allows for a range of over 500 kilometres when running solely on CNG (compressed natural gas). And with the model's 25-litre gasoline tank, the overall range is increased by up to 950 kilometres.

The Audi SQ5 TFSI, the top model in the Q5 line gets its power from the turbocharged three-litre V6 engine with 349 bhp and delivers 500 Nm of torque at just 1,370 rpm. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.4 seconds.

The Audi RS 3 Sportback gets a new 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder engine that puts out 394 bhp and develops a maximum torque of 480 Nm. The model takes only 4.1 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph. The RS 3 Sportback's design is accentuated by a striking Single frame, complete with the quattro logo, big air inlets and angular sill trims. quattro management is a standard feature integrated in the dynamic handling system Audi drive select, along with the steering, S tronic, engine management and adjustable exhaust flaps – along with the optional RS sport suspension plus with adaptive damper control.

Along with the production model, Audi Sport is simultaneously presenting the DTM racing version of the Audi RS 5 Coupé. In addition to numerous changes made to comply with regulations, the new RS design language has also been implemented. The four-litre V8 engine in the Audi RS 5 DTM now has over 500 hp of power output.

The new RS 5 Coupé, the Gran Turismo of RS models, employs a completely redeveloped 2.9 TFSI V6 biturbo engine that generates 444 bhp of power and delivers a maximum torque of 600 Nm – 170 Nm more than its predecessor.

The Audi Q8 sport concept is powered by a combination of a 3.0 TFSI six-cylinder engine with a mild hybrid system and an electric powered compressor - a world first. The Q8 sport concept's power output is rated at 470 bhp and develops a peak torque of 700 Nm. The car can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds and reaches a top-speed of 275 kmph.

The new XC60, claimed to be one of the safest cars ever made, comes loaded with new technology. It adds Steer Assist to the ground-breaking City Safety system and also receives a new safety system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation which uses steer assist to help mitigate head-on collisions. Volvo’s Blind Spot Indication System (BLIS) now uses Steer Assist functionality to reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions.
