Jaguar XE Global Unveiling - Live Coverage

Note: This live blog was done during the global unveiling of the 'baby' Jaguar, the XE. Thanks for staying with us. For the detailed information, kindly check our unveiling story.
The big day has finally arrived when Jaguar will unveil the much-anticipated Jaguar XE. Three things that make the all-new XE make such an important product for India are - 1) It will be placed in the highly competitive entry-level luxury sedan segment, where we already have cars like Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series and Audi A4. 2) It will be the most-fuel efficient Jaguar ever. 3) The car will arrive on our shores by the next year.
Team NDTV Auto is in London to witness the global debut of the Jaguar XE. It shouldn't be long before the unveiling is underway, since it is set to start at 19:15 - 22:15 BST (UK Time) i.e. 11:45 PM - 03:00 AM IST (India Time). So, stay tuned and keep refreshing the page to catch the live action.
1:53 IST: Thanks for staying with us during the live coverage. Full details of the entire XE range will be announced at the Paris Motorshow in October.
1:47 IST: As mentioned before, the Jaguar XE comes with a new engine family - Igenium. There is one 2.0-litre diesel unit ad a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol unit on offer, along with a performance-oriented 3.0-litre V6 unit.
1:45 IST: The new XE will be offered with a range of four- and six-cylinder all-aluminium petrol and diesel engines.
1:40 IST: And the car has been finally unveiled. It measures 4672mm in length, 1850mm in width, 1416mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2835mm.

1:39 IST: The 3.0-litre unit helps the XE touch 100Km/h from standstill in mere 5.1 seconds, with a top-speed of 250Km/h.
1:37 IST: Powering the XE S, the performance-oriented model, is a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder engine that mated to a ZF 8HP45 8-speed automatic trasmission, churns out a maximum power output of 335bhp and 450Nm of torque.
1:32 IST: There's also a bunch of high-tech driver assistance systems in the XE, including an industry-first laser head-up display. The technology provides information such as speed and navigation instructions with maximum clarity and minimum distraction.
1:30 IST: "In-car technologies in this ever-more connected and fast-paced world are an integral part of your driving experience. With the all-new XE we're introducing an entire suite of cutting-edge driver aids and entertainment systems. Designed and developed from scratch, they will ensure that every journey you take is simpler, more relaxing, safer, and effortlessly enjoyable.", says Dr Mike Bell, Jaguar's Global Connected Car Director.
1:29 IST: The new XE's InControl infotainment has an 8-inch touch-screen. Its remote allows users of iOS and Android smartphones to connect the car from anywhere and control several functions like climate control, locking/unlocking of the doors and even start the engine.
1:28 IST: "The Jaguar XE body uses over 75 percent aluminium content, which far exceeds any other car in its class. This gives us a body structure with unrivalled low weight: it's light but also immensely strong with extremely high levels of torsional stiffness. We've made sure our aluminium-intensive body structure exceeds all global safety standards without compromising on vehicle design or refinement.", says Dr Mark White, Jaguar's Chief Technical Specialist.
1:26 IST: What really helps the XE return such an impressive mileage figure is its lightweight aluminium that accounts for about 75 percent of the sedan's structure. Other Jaguar cars that were built using aluminium were the XJ, XK and the F-Type.
1:25 IST: Jaguar says that the XE is the most fuel-efficient car in its league with a claimed mileage of 75MPG (26.5Km/l).
1:20 IST: The XE comes with a choice of two powerful and efficient, petrol and diesel engine options, from the company's new Ingenium range of engine.
1:00 IST: Jaguar XE's lightweight construction and advanced chassis technology help the car deliver outstanding driving dynamics with great handling, claims Jaguar.
12:45: The time travellers seek advice for a car they are working on; a car that will arrive 65 years after the XK120.
12:38 IST: Quite the Broadway-esque launch Jaguar's got here. Humming 'Feel the exhilaration' yet?
12:33 IST: This is probably one of the best car launch events ever happened. Now Jaguar, through an act, is talking about the features that the new-breed of Jaguars come equipped with including their light-weight aluminium construction, powerful and efficient engline line-up etc.
12:30 IST: After a tour of the history, we are back in 2014 and seeing the current line-up of Jaguar.
12:25 IST: 'Time travel, adventure, quest for the baby Jaguar is on. Interesting play!'
12:19 IST: Emeli Sande, the British Pop Star, is performing a brand new song at the XE launch. Intersting stuff.
12:16 IST: A very different take by Jaguar on what a car launch presentation should be like. Interesting!
12:14 IST: Jaguar is now explaining the inspiration and vision behind the XE through a unique play.
12:10 IST: After the orchestra and music, Jaguar is going through its brand history and legacy.
12:05 IST: The launch event has finally begun, though, folks at Jaguar are busy welcoming its guests and media. And see, who we have here, Emeli Sande and Paloma Faith.
11:58 IST: The stage is set for the global debut of the 'baby' Jaguar.
