Tata Curvv Expert Review: car&bike Expert Take
When we first spent time with the Tata Curvv, it quickly became clear that this isn’t just another compact SUV trying to squeeze into an already crowded segment. What Tata has done here is introduce something that genuinely feels different. The Curvv blends the practicality of an SUV with the dramatic styling of a coupe, and that combination immediately grabs attention on the road. In a market dominated by conventional boxy designs, this car feels like a bold step in a new direction.
Over the course of our real-world driving experience, the Tata Curvv proved that its appeal goes beyond just looks. You notice the strong road presence the moment you pull up anywhere. People stop and look, often trying to figure out exactly what kind of SUV it is. That’s part of its charm — it doesn’t blend in. The cabin brings a premium vibe, the engines offer modern turbo performance, and overall it feels like a car designed for buyers who want something stylish without stepping into luxury-car territory.
As Bilal Firfiray puts it, “The speciality of the Curvv has to be this rare coupe SUV body style. It brings a very fresh flavour in the segment and it looks gorgeous.”

For this Tata Curvv Expert review, the car was evaluated by Bilal Firfiray, one of the most experienced voices on the car&bike editorial team. With over 12 years of automotive journalism experience, Bilal approaches every review with a strong focus on real-world usability rather than just specifications.

We didn’t just drive the Curvv around the block either. Within a week, the car clocked nearly 1,500 km with us, giving us enough time to understand its strengths and its quirks. Our test route included everyday Mumbai traffic, a long stretch on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, and a highway run all the way to Nashik and back. These varied conditions helped us experience how the TataCurvv behaves in city driving, high-speed cruising, and long-distance journeys.
When we look at the Tata Curvv, it’s clear that Tata Motors isn’t just launching another compact SUV. Instead, the company is trying to carve out a new space between traditional midsize SUVs and the premium coupe SUVs we usually see from luxury brands. That’s what makes the Curvv interesting. It brings the drama of coupe styling into a price segment where buyers normally choose practical, boxy SUVs.
What’s fascinating about the Curvv story is that we actually saw this design long before the production car arrived. Tata first revealed the Curvv as a concept, and it immediately grabbed attention because it looked bold, futuristic, and very different from anything else in the segment. The production version stays surprisingly close to that original idea, which is why the Tata Curvv still feels fresh even in a crowded market.

What defines the Curvv’s positioning is a mix of style, modern engines, and a design-first approach.
- Coupe SUV design language
- Premium compact SUV segment
- Petrol and diesel engines
- Distinct design identity. EV version also available
And when you see the car in person, the effect is even stronger. The sloping roofline and wide rear styling make the Tata Curvv look larger and more muscular than it actually is. That sense of presence is exactly what many SUV buyers want today — something that stands out in a parking lot and still feels practical enough for everyday driving.
Watch: First Drive: Tata Curvv Petrol/Diesel
The Curvv range has been designed to give buyers flexibility depending on how many features they want and how much they want to spend. What’s nice is that even the entry version still delivers the coupe-SUV styling and strong road presence that define the car. Tata progressively adds comfort features, technology and driver assist systems as you move up the lineup.
Smart 1.2 Revotron
The Smart 1.2 Revotron Petrol 6MT is the Tata Curvv base model with its emphasis on simplicity and affordability. It pairs the turbo-petrol engine with a manual transmission and covers the essential safety and comfort requirements. This version is aimed at buyers who want the Tata Curvv’s distinctive design and everyday usability without stretching their budget too much.
Creative S
The Creative S variant sits in the middle of the lineup and adds features that make daily driving more comfortable. The highlight here is the automatic gearbox option, which makes city traffic easier to deal with. Along with that, the cabin gains additional convenience features that enhance the overall ownership experience.
Accomplished Plus
At the top sits the Tata Curvv top model, the Accomplished Plus A TGDi Petrol DCA Dark Edition. This version brings the full technology package, including a panoramic sunroof, premium interior finishes and an advanced ADAS suite.
During our extended drives, the driver assistance systems worked well overall, although in dense traffic the ADAS braking could occasionally feel slightly over-sensitive.
The design is easily the biggest talking point of the Tata Curvv. In a segment filled with conventional SUVs, this one immediately stands apart. The Curvv is a mixture of SUV proportions and a coupe-like design, which provides a car with a personality that feels new and modern. During our time with the car, we noticed that people often paused to take a second look. It is the type of design that creates curiosity and that is what Tata appears to have planned.
Front Design
The front of the Tata Curvv looks futuristic without feeling overdone. A sleek LED DRL light bar stretches across the width of the nose, instantly giving the car a signature look. The design of the bumper incorporates sharp edges and sculpted surfaces that combine to form a bold face resembling a modern and confident look.
Side Profile
From the side, the coupe's inspiration becomes clear. The sloping roofline flows smoothly toward the rear, creating that distinctive coupe-SUV silhouette. At the same time, the tall stance and muscular wheel arches maintain the SUV identity.
As Bilal Firfiray explains, “This coupe SUV body style brings a very fresh flavour to the segment.”

Rear Styling
The rear of the Curvv completes the dramatic design. Connected LED tail lamps stretch across the width, giving the SUV a wide and planted appearance. The bold stance also makes the car look larger than it actually is. In fact, during one fuel stop, a couple of attendants walked over just to admire the rear styling because it looked big, bold and different from the usual SUVs on the road.
Watch: Tata CURVV Coupe SUV Concept
Step inside the Tata Curvv and the cabin immediately feels modern and tech-focused. Tata has clearly tried to create an interior that matches the futuristic exterior styling. The dashboard layout feels clean and contemporary, and the large screens dominate your field of view when you sit in the driver’s seat. During our drives, the cabin generally felt comfortable and well-equipped, especially for everyday commuting and long highway runs.
- 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment
- Digital instrument cluster
- Panoramic sunroof
- Wireless smartphone connectivity
However, spending nearly 1,500 km with the car also revealed a few small annoyances that you might not notice in a short test drive. Surprisingly, the centre console also lacks a good cup holder, which seems awkward by the standards of a modern SUV. The USB port placement is also slightly awkward, making it difficult to plug in cables easily. Over rough roads, we also noticed a few squeaks coming from the centre console area. These are small things, but they do stand out when you live with the car for longer journeys.

Rear Seat Reality
The rear seat experience is where the coupe styling starts to show its compromise. Because of the sloping roofline, headroom isn’t as generous as you might expect from an SUV of this size. Legroom remains fairly comfortable, but the overall cabin can feel a bit tighter than the exterior suggests.

As Bilal Firfiray points out from our time with the car, “The cabin doesn’t feel as spacious as the exterior suggests.”
Watch: Birth of Tata Curvv
Technology is a big part of the Curvv’s appeal, and Tata has packed the cabin with features that make the SUV feel modern and connected. The moment you start interacting with the screens, it becomes clear that the car is designed for buyers who expect their vehicles to feel as smart as their smartphones. The large infotainment display sits at the centre of the dashboard and works alongside the digital driver display to create a cockpit that feels futuristic yet easy to use.
- Harman infotainment system
- Wireless Android Auto
- Digital instrument cluster
- Connected car technology
- ADAS safety features
Most of these features work smoothly during everyday driving, and they add a strong sense of premium technology to the experience. That said, our longer test period did reveal a small hiccup. The wireless Android Auto connection occasionally disconnected without warning, something we noticed during extended drives. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s the kind of small glitch that stands out when you spend serious time living with the car.

When it comes to performance, the Curvv focuses on delivering a balanced driving experience rather than outright sportiness. Over the course of our 1,500 km test, we drove the car through busy city traffic, open expressways and long highway runs. What quickly stood out was how easy the Tata Curvv feels to drive in everyday conditions. The engines are tuned for smooth power delivery, which makes commuting comfortable while still offering enough punch for highway overtakes.

Engine Options
| Engine | Power | Torque |
1.2-litre Revotron Turbo Petrol
| 118 bhp | 170 Nm |
1.2-litre TGDi Hyperion Petrol
| 123 bhp | 225 Nm |
| 1.5-litre Kryojet Diesel | 116 bhp | 260 Nm |
| Source: car&bike | ||
Acceleration (0-100 kmph)
| Engine | 0-100 kmph |
| Petrol TGDi | 11.96 seconds |
| Diesel | 12.34 seconds |
| Source: Autocar India | |
During our real-world drives, both engines felt well-suited to the Curvv’s character.
- Smooth turbo petrol response
- Diesel offers strong torque
- Easy highway cruising

The turbo-petrol engine feels particularly lively in city traffic, responding quickly when you press the throttle. Meanwhile, the diesel option brings a stronger surge of torque, making it relaxed and confident during long highway journeys. In any case, the Curvv provides a driving experience that is more effortless than aggressive, which is, in fact, in line with its everyday SUV character.
Spend a few hours behind the wheel of the Curvv and you start to appreciate how Tata has tuned the SUV for everyday usability rather than outright sportiness. The suspension system is evidently well-tuned to Indian roads, and it absorbs the majority of bumps and rough areas, without compromising cabin composure. Whether we were driving through city traffic or cruising on long highway stretches, the car maintained a reassuring sense of balance. It does not attempt to be over-stiff or rough; rather, it aims at providing a ride that is secure and reliable.
- Comfortable ride quality
- Stable highway performance
- Easy city manoeuvrability

On the highway, the Tata Curvv feels planted and composed, which makes long drives feel relaxed rather than tiring. At the same time, the steering remains light enough for urban driving, making tight turns and parking manoeuvres easy. Put it all together and the Curvv ends up feeling like a car that’s designed for real-world driving — smooth in the city, stable on the highway, and easy to live with every day.
Fuel efficiency is always an important factor for SUV buyers, and the Curvv manages to keep things fairly competitive for its segment. Depending on the engine you choose, the SUV offers a balance between performance and everyday efficiency. During our extended drives, the numbers felt reasonable for a vehicle of this size and power.
Engine | Claimed Mileage | City | Highway |
| Petrol TGDi | 14 kmpl | 16 kmpl | 18 kmpl |
| Diesel | 15 kmpl | 16 kmpl | 18.5 kmpl |
| Source: car&bike | |||
Over the course of our 1,500 km test drive, we had multiple fuel stops, which gave us a good sense of how the Curvv behaves in real-world conditions. The petrol engine feels smoother in city driving, while the diesel option tends to stretch fuel efficiency better on long highway runs. In everyday use, the Curvv strikes a sensible balance between power and economy, which is exactly what most buyers in this segment expect.
The Curvv is positioned to compete directly with some of the most popular compact SUVs in India, and Tata has priced it to stay right in the middle of this competitive segment. Depending on the variant and engine option you choose, the Curvv offers a wide range of features and technology across its lineup.
| Variant | Ex-showroom Price (Approx.) |
| Smart 1.2 Revotron Petrol 6MT | Rs 9.66 lakh |
| Creative S 1.2 Revotron Petrol 7DCA | Rs 14 lakh |
| Accomplished Plus A TGDi Petrol DCA Dark Edition | Rs 18.82 lakh |
| Source: car&bike | |
What makes the pricing interesting is how Tata balances design, technology and performance. For buyers who want something stylish yet practical in the compact SUV space, the Curvv sits in a fairly attractive price bracket.
Safety has become one of Tata Motors’ strongest selling points in recent years, and the Curvv continues that focus. While the model is yet to be officially evaluated under Bharat NCAP, expectations are naturally high because Tata vehicles have built a strong reputation for structural safety. Buyers have already seen cars like the Nexon achieve impressive crash-test results, so many will expect the Curvv to follow a similar path.

Tata models have received five-star safety scores, a factor that has established the brand as a safety leader in the Indian market. That legacy creates a strong sense of confidence around the Curvv’s safety credentials.
- Six airbags
- ESC (Electronic Stability Control)
- ADAS driver assistance suite
- 360-degree camera
- ISOFIX child seat mounts
During our extended test drives, the ADAS system generally worked well. However, in dense traffic situations, it could occasionally feel a bit too cautious, sometimes applying the brakes earlier than expected.
The Curvv enters one of the most competitive spaces in the Indian car market. Compact SUVs have become incredibly popular, which means buyers already have several strong options to consider. However, the Curvv approaches the segment slightly differently. Rather than the conventional upright SUV, it introduces a coupe-like look that stands out instantly among most competitors.
Here’s how some of the key competitors compare on paper.
| Model | Power | Torque | Character | Ex-showroom Price |
| Tata Curvv | 116–123 bhp | 170–260 Nm | Coupe SUV challenger | Rs 9.66–18.82 lakh |
| Citroen Basalt X | 81–110 bhp | 115–205 Nm | Coupe SUV rival | Rs 7.95–13.11 lakh |
| Hyundai Creta | 113–114 bhp | 144–250 Nm | Segment benchmark | Rs 10.73–20.05 lakh |
| Kia Seltos | 113–157 bhp | 144–253 Nm | Feature-rich SUV | Rs 10.99–19.99 lakh |
| Source: Tata Curvv, Citroen Basalt X, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos | ||||
Where the Curvv tries to stand out is through design and personality. While the Creta and Seltos focus on features and broad appeal, and the Basalt also explores the coupe idea, the Curvv combines bold styling with Tata’s growing reputation for safety and technology. That unique blend gives it a distinct identity in a crowded segment.
Pros
- Unique coupe SUV styling
- Strong road presence
- Feature-rich interior
- Premium design language
- Distinct segment identity
Cons
- Rear headroom compromise
- Cabin space slightly limited
- Tech glitches observed
- ADAS overly sensitive sometimes
Verdict
After spending serious time behind the wheel, it’s clear that the Curvv isn’t trying to be just another safe, predictable SUV. Instead, it focuses on standing out. The progressive coupe-like style, advanced technology and impressive road presence provide it with the personality that most compact SUVs lack. That’s really the core appeal of the Tata Curvv — it offers something visually and conceptually different in a segment where many vehicles start to look and feel similar.
Of course, there are a few compromises. The sloping roofline slightly affects rear headroom, and a few small interior quirks show up during longer drives. But overall, the Curvv delivers a refreshing mix of style, features and everyday usability.
As Bilal Firfiray sums it up, “The Curvv brings something different to a crowded compact SUV segment.”

- I feel this car could be improved3.0Pure Plus 1.5 Kryojet Diesel 6MT(Diesel)Driving the Tata Curvv for about a year now, and while I’m happy with most aspects, there are a few things that could be better. The design is fantastic, and it certainly turns heads. The engine performance is good, but it struggles a bit when fully loaded, especially on highways. The interior space is decent, but the boot space is a bit tight for long trips. The fuel efficiency is average, and I feel it could be improved. The suspension is comfortable, and the safety features are strong with multiple airbags. It’s a solid car, but not without its shortcomings.By Shivaji KharatPosted on: Oct 14, 2024 05:32 PM10
- Its been a great experience so far4.0Creative 1.2 Revotron Petrol 7DCA(Petrol)I was pleasantly surprised by how efficient it is for an SUV. Whether I’m driving in the city or taking it out for longer trips, I’ve been getting decent fuel economy, which is something I really value. It’s perfect for someone like me who enjoys weekend getaways but doesn’t want to break the bank with fuel costs. Moving on to the interiors, Tata has really outdone themselves here. The cabin feels premium, and the materials they’ve used give it a luxurious vibe without being too over the top. The seats are super comfortable, and there’s plenty of space for both the driver and passengers. I’ve taken a couple of long drives, and I didn’t feel fatigued at all, which says a lot about the comfort level. The infotainment system is top-notch, and the dashboard layout is sleek and modern. I’m also a fan of the ambient lighting—gives the cabin a cool, relaxed feel, especially during night drives.By Mubin ShaikhPosted on: Oct 10, 2024 02:26 PM00
