Ford Making More Mustang Mach-E Than ICE Based Mustang Models

- The Mustang Mach E production is favoured over the standard Mustang
- This has resulted in Ford manufacturing more EVs than the standard model
- Sales however are a different story with standard Mustang's being 2x more
Ford has revealed that it is already making more electric versions of the Mustang than traditional Mustang models which are based on the internal combustion engine. The Mustang Mach E which was launched only last year has already outpaced the production of the old school Mustang, the Detroit based automaker revealed in a report by Bloomberg.
"Ford has built 27,816 electric Mustang Mach-E models at a plant in Mexico this year compared to 26,089 copies of the traditional internal combustion engine Mustang at a factory in Michigan, according to production data the automaker released Thursday," said the Bloomberg report.

New Ford CEO Jim Farley is piloting the company towards EVs
At the launch of the Ford F-150 Lightning CEO Jim Farley revealed that he expected that 40 per cent of the vehicles Ford made would be EVs by the end of the decade. He has also planned to boost the spending on battery vehicles by 36 per cent with an infusion of $30 billion.
"Mach-E has been much stronger than we expected, so we've totally run out of stock," Farley said at the introduction of the electric F-150 Lightning pickup on May 19. "Mach-E is going global as we speak, but in the U.S." the wait for a Mach-E "is months.
Farley also revealed that partially the global chipset shortage was responsible for this massive change for the Mustang as Ford couldn't make enough traditional Mustang models as it didn't have the semiconductors for the models. This has led to a situation where Ford has prioritised its newer EVs over its older traditional models.

The Mustang Mach E is iconic carmaker's first EV
"We have purposely protected our launches -- Bronco, Bronco Sport, Mach-E, F-150. If we can switch a module over to one of those launch vehicles, we have. We're very protective of the launches because they are so important for our business," Farley added.
In the US Ford sold 1,945 Mach-E which is still fewer than 4,436 standard Mustang models in the same period. There are around 2,000 Mach E models in the distribution network with them sitting with dealers.
