The Jeep Compass is the first SUV from the company to be locally manufactured here and it will be imported to other right-hand-drive markets as well, from India. The Compass comes with about 65 per cent localisation, making for an aggressive pricing over other CBU Jeep products. The Compass is quite a typical SUV in terms of stance and gets a butch front end that is quite wide and imposing along with a typical 7-slat Jeep grille. The headlamps feature LED daytime running lights combined with a projector setup while the lower half of the bumper is plastic clad. In profile, the Compass gets typically squared off wheel arches and a distinctive floating roof design. Around the back, the Compass is dominated by the large horizontally placed LED tail lamps and is typically upright and butch in terms of design.

On the inside, the Jeep Compass features white leather upholstery and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SUV is pretty wide and a long wheelbase ensures a lot of legroom, shoulder room and headroom for rear passengers. Power comes from the 2-litre Multijet diesel engine under the hood that makes 171 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is mated currently only to a 6-speed gearbox.

We expect the Jeep Compass to be priced between the Rs. 18-22 lakh range. That said, when we did run a poll on Twitter recently, most of our audience expects the price to be considerably lower at Rs. 15-19 lakh. Although it is great to expect a low price, we think the top spec car like the one we drive will most certainly be above the Rs. 20 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. That said, the compass is a highly anticipated launch and now just a few minutes away from the price reveal. Stay tuned for updates.
