Okinawa Issues Recall For 3215 E-Scooters

Electric scooter fires has been a 'hot' topic in the country in the past few weeks. E-scooters from several notable brands were involved in fires, with initial analyses suggesting that these could have been a result of poor battery health caused by charging anomalies.

Rising temperatures have also played their part on e-scooter fires, and several scooters spontaneously caught fire or started smoking up, especially in the heat of the day. Luckily, no one was hurt in these recent fires, and most damages were to the actual vehicle itself.

In order to get ahead of these issues, Okinawa Autotech has issued a recall of 3215 units of its Praise Pro e-scooter. The automaker insists that this is only a part of its battery health check-up activities - not actual battery issues - and the company will check the battery health and loose connections at terminals and make any necessary repairs free of charge.

Okinawa recently also launched the Okhi-90 e-scooter.

This recall may also be followed by other e-scooter manufacturers once they finish their investigations into the causes of the battery fires. The scooter fires have added to the already existing doubt in minds of Indian consumers about owning EVs, as range limitations and lack of charging infrastructure continue to be pressing issues with EV ownership.
