Polestar Developing 627 bhp Electric Motor And Two-Speed Gearbox

- The p10 motor can generate 627 bhp with a 2 speed gearbox
- The Polestar Percept could be the car that gets two of these motors
- The motor will also not be shared with Volvo or geely
Not many electric cars have a gearbox per se - only the Porsche Taycan and the Audi E-Tron GT have one, but even though they are popular performance EVs, most people aren't really fond of the transmission. Now it turns out, even Polestar is said to be developing its own electric motor and a two-speed gearbox which is similar to the one the Volkswagen group carmakers are using.
Reportedly, the P10 motor is being developed in Sweden and is around 50 percent more powerful than the one used in the Porsche Taycan motor and is going to have an output of 627 bhp or 475 kW. It will be paired with this new two-speed gearbox and when paired with a vehicle that has an all-wheel-drive system, each axle could get its own cog swapping action. And this new motor will also be exclusive to Polestar as it wouldn't be shared with its parents Geely or Volvo.

This means this technology will also not flow over to Lotus which is just starting the electrification of its own portfolio after its acquisition by Geely in 2017.
"There's no reason the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 will be talked about in the same sentence. Polestar wants to be a Porsche competitor, in design, performance, and innovation," said Gregor Hembrough.
It seems like Polestar wants to have a go at Porsche and will go after the Taycan with its own direct rival. What could that be? Well, it has already shown off the futuristic Percept concept which could get two of the P10 motors with a potential 1,254 bhp on offer it could be one of the fastest EVs in the world going up against the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Lucid Air Dream edition.
Polestar will also likely use an 800V EV architecture which is being developed by Volvo, Lotus, and Polestar together and it could integrate a 103 kWh battery back that does 80 percent charge in 20 minutes and V2X capabilities will be embedded at its heart.
