Skoda Superb to Launch on February 23, 2016

Skoda India has teased the all-new Superb on its website with the car set to go on sale in India on February 23. The new Superb features some radical design changes as the new car borrows lots of design bits from the stunning Vision C concept and the production version of the car made its global debut in Prague in 2015.

The new-look Skoda Superb is based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform that's also used on the Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia. The new design is 80mm longer to accommodate for more space and features an array of new design changes. Gone are the soft curves of the outgoing version as the slick new Superb is equipped with highly styled angular 3D head lamps, 2-part LED tail lamps, and a host of attractive lines and sharp cuts in the general body work. The new body is also wider than the current generation's. The narrow pillars and sloping roofline add to its new and more appealing design lingo which is a stark improvement on the older design.

In terms of interiors, the new Skoda Superb gets dual-zone air conditioning, parking sensors, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable seats, and a host of additional smart technologies. In terms of engine options, the new Superb is likely to arrive with the same powertrain options as the Octavia i.e., a 1.8-litre TSI petrol unit good for 177.5bhp and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel unit that makes 141bhp.

The fullsize sedan segment in India has shrunk over the years as older models of cars like the Accord and Passat have been discontinued. The only competitor to the Superb that is currently on sale in India is the Toyota Camry. Nevertheless, the Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord, and Hyundai Sonata are all expected to re-launch in India sometime in the near future. Interestingly, once the aforementioned trio of fullsize sedans re-launch in India, the Superb will be the only offering to not offer a hybrid variant. The hybrid versions of all 3 upcoming cars were showcased at Auto Expo 2016 whereas the Toyota Camry Hybrid has been on sale in India for a couple of years now and has already been through a facelift. Upon its launch, the new Skoda Superb is expected to be priced between Rs 22 lakh and Rs 28 lakh.
