Highlights

It has been over a month since Volkswagen India's world premiere of its much awaited sub-compact sedan Ameo. The car which is set to mark the German carmaker's entry in to the highly competitive sub-4 metre sedan category is set to be launched in India in the second half of 2016. Recently a production version of the Volkswagen Ameo was spotted with the TDI badge, and to our sweet surprise, the 7-Speed Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG) unit.

We had earlier mentioned in our reports that the Volkswagen is likely to offer its much popular DSG unit with the Ameo. Currently the Maruti Swift Dzire and the Tata Zest are the only two cars in the segment that offer automatic transmission, but both the cars come with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) unit. Whereas, the Volkswagen Ameo offers a DSG unit making it a much better value preposition.

Apart from this the biggest highlights of the Volkswagen Ameo is the fact that it is the first German car that has been designed in India, specifically for the Indian market. It has the highest percentage of localisation compares to any other Volkswagen car in the country and is manufactured at the company's Chakan facility itself. In terms of looks the Ameo shares most of its design and style cues with its hatchback cousin, Polo. The front end of the car looks like a slightly enhanced version of the Polo but, the Ameo gets new headlamps, sporty front bumper, horizontal fog lamps, wide air dam and some considerable chrome detailing. At the rear the car comes with a stocky boot lid and all-new tail-lamps.
