Hero MotoCorp has set-up a new vertical for sales, service, and distribution of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and merchandise in India. The new vertical will be headed by Ravi Avalur, who will be reporting to Dr. Pawan Munjal, Chairman, and CEO - Hero MotoCorp. With the announcement, Harley-Davidson India is officially back in business with 11 dealerships that joined under Hero's purview and are spread out in 11 cities. The first batch of motorcycles and merchandise was dispatched to dealers on January 18, 2021.

Ravi Avalur comes to Hero MotoCorp from engine components manufacturer Cooper, where he was the Head of Strategy and International Business. He has had plenty of experience in the premium motorcycle market and was previously the Managing Director at Ducati India. Ravi will be joined by four executives from Harley-Davidson's erstwhile operations, which will help the American brand make a smoother transition in the Indian market with its new partner.

Harley-Davidson plans to introduce the new and updated models in India this year

The announcement comes as a follow-up to Harley leaving India last year and making a quick comeback after partnering with Hero MotoCorp. The Indian two-wheeler giant will be responsible for the sales and distribution of Harley bikes in India. The brands will also co-develop motorcycles for emerging markets, as part of a licensing agreement.

Furthermore, Hero MotoCorp says that it will expand the service, parts, and accessories business beyond the 11 cities to a pan India level through its own dealer network. The brand also has a number of new model launches planned for this year, and we will be hearing more about them closer to the launch dates.
