How to Rotate Your Car Tyres

Since car tyres are the single point of contact to the road, they are more prone to abuse and uneven damage. Moreover, some tyres are more prone to damage than the other ones in the same car. Rotating your tyres balances out the wear and tear and maintains performance.
Moreover, rotating the tyres offers a smoother ride and extends the life of the tyres. The best part about the process is that it merely takes an hour. So, let's get started, shall we?

Step 1: Park Your Vehicle on a Levelled Surface
The first step is to look for a levelled parking surface to conduct the process. Performing tire rotation on a flat surface reduces risk. Also, park your car in a spot free of traffic. Next, place your vehicle in first gear and apply the handbrake.
This step will keep the vehicle stable in its position. Also, make sure that you have all the necessary tools and parts for the process.

Step 2: Loosen Up the Lug Nuts
Once you have stabilized the car, discard the wheel cap and loosen up the wheel nuts. You can use a lug wrench or a wheel spanner. A wheel spanner is a four-arm tool critical for the rotation process.
To loosen the nuts, put the right arm of the lug wrench against it and apply pressure with your feet. You do not need to unbolt the nut entirely but only loosen it.
Step 3: Lift the Vehicle
To lift the vehicle, fix the jacks on the jacking point of your car. Make sure that the jack tool stands perpendicular to the surface.
Also, it should not wobble or bend as this would result in a safety issue. Once you have secured the jacks perfectly, lift them until all the tires stand one inch above ground level.

Step 4: Rotate the Tyres
You now have to unbolt the nuts. Next, use your hands to apply pressure to pull off the wheels. One of the most challenging steps is to determine where to place which tire. Well, that depends on whether your wheels are directional or non-directional.
- For Non-Directional Tyres: You can place non-directional tires on any wheel. You can opt for a rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, or front-wheel drive for such tires.
- For Directional Tyres: These tires have specific sets for both sides of the vehicle. In simpler words, you can interchange the left sides and do the same with the right side. Random rotation for directional tyres is strictly verboten.
Step 5: Lower the Vehicle
You can lower the car after you have rotated and anchored all the tires successfully and hand screwed the lug nuts. Once the wheels touch the ground, you can take out the jack stands.
After this, tighten the nuts using the lug wrench tool. Finally, re-equip the wheels with the caps. And, don't forget to put all those tools back into their box and leave the area clean and tidy!
