Japan Mobility Show 2025: Honda 0 α (Alpha) Electric SUV Confirmed For India Launch In 2027

- Honda 0 α SUV prototype makes world premiere at Japan Mobility Show 2025.
- 5-seat model will be launched in India in 2027.
- Expected to be priced between Rs 20 to 30 lakh.
India's wait for an accessible, all-electric Honda SUV will come to an end in the next two years. On the first day of the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Honda revealed the 0 α electric SUV prototype, which will go into production in 2027, and will also be launched in India that same year. The 0 α previews the smallest, and most affordable model in Honda's 0 Series EV family, and is initially targeted only at Japan and India. The 0 α, in Honda's words, is being developed as an SUV that blends into both urban and natural environments, and designed to offer ‘outstanding passenger comfort’.
Sealed-off front end features illuminated Honda logo.
What are the highlights of the Honda 0 α SUV's design and dimensions?
The Honda 0 α is a visibly condensed version of the larger Honda 0 SUV showcased earlier in 2025, adopting the same ‘Thin, Light and Wise’ development philosophy. Honda wanted to create an SUV that had sufficient ground clearance, but without being too tall, and to that effect, the company claims it has designed a ‘thin’ cabin, while retaining the wide stance expected of an SUV.
Note rear door handle placed flush in the C-pillar.
The grille area is replaced by a sealed-off gloss black panel housing the charge port, and above it is a full-width LED daytime running light that flows into the LED headlights. The front bumper incorporates silver inserts that create the visual effect of a skid plate, and the prototype rides on dual-tone, 19-inch wheels shod in Goodyear tyres.
The roof is painted black to provide contrast, as are the A- and B-pillars, and the C-pillar is notably thick and wide. The tail section is boxy and slab-sided, almost akin to an MPV, with a U-shaped, full-width tail-light.
Upright, van-like tail section hints at maximisation of boot space.
While Honda has refrained from sharing technical details, it is understood the 0 α SUV is bigger than the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki E-Vitara, closer to a BYD Atto 3.
What will the Honda 0 α SUV's battery and motor options be?
We're still at least a year away from seeing the production-spec Honda 0 α SUV, but it is clear that this will employ a single-motor setup, potentially driving the front wheels.
Honda is likely to target a range of up to 500 km.
Battery sizes are likely to be in the range of 50-70 kWh, which will help Honda's SUV compete on an even footing with models from other carmakers. Honda is understood to be targeting a range of 400 to 500 kilometres with the 0 α SUV.
What will the Honda 0 α SUV's price be?
We expect Honda to localise production of the 0 α electric SUV when it is launched in 2027, but bearing in mind its size and battery options, the SUV is likely to be priced between Rs 20 to 30 lakh (ex-showroom).
