Mahindra Scorpio Gets Mild Hybrid Technology

- With the mild hybrid system, claimed fuel savings will be up to 7%
- The technology will be available on all Scorpio models
- The technology might trickle down to other Mahindra SUVs too
Mahindra was one of the worst hit manufacturers after National Green Tribunal's ban on diesel cars above 2,000cc. But ever since then, Mahindra got its game up and announced 1.99-litre engines for its SUVs, barely conforming to NGT's rules. And now, it has introduced mild hybrid technology for the Scorpio, one of its most popular SUVs. Mahindra says that the 'Intelli-Hybrid' technology can reduce the fuel consumption by up to 7 per cent as it can assist the engine with electric power when accelerating. Also, the engine automatically shuts off when the vehicle is stationary, for example at a traffic signal. Apart from that, the engine also makes use of the energy generated to recharge the battery, which otherwise goes waste.
The Mahindra Scorpio was the first Indian SUV to have Voice messaging system, a CRDe engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission option and now a mild hybrid system as well.
Pravin Shah, the president and chief executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, "As an organisation that places keen emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly practices, across every process and product, we are proud to introduce mild hybrid technology on the Scorpio. By reducing fuel consumption, Intelli-Hybrid helps Scorpio owners contribute towards a cleaner and greener tomorrow."
At present, the 'Intelli-Hybrid system will be offered on all the variants of the Scorpio. The price for the top of the line S10 2WD with 'Intelli-Hybrid' variant is Rs. 12.84 lakh (Ex-showroom, Navi Mumbai). We believe that the Mahindra will soon introduce its mild hybrid technology in other SUVs in its portfolio as well.
