Highlights

Ever since its launch in the Indian market, Chevrolet Beat has been among the top-selling cars from General Motors in India. But rising competition and almost no change in the Beat's overall design, except some minor cosmetic changes, have hammered its sales in the market.

In a bid to revive its sales, the US based carmaker has started working on the new-generation Beat (known as Spark in several markets). However, the U.S. and Korean models will be based on the new Opel Karl/Vauxhall Viva that will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The Indian and Brazilian model, on the other hand, will be based on a new platform - Amber - that is developed specially for the emerging markets.

As mentioned above, the platforms for the American/Korean model will be different from that of the India-bound model, we think the design could be similar.

Talking about the engine, General Motors is most likely to fit a new 3-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine in the small hatch.
