New Ford Figo Might Launch Sooner Than Expected in India

It is no secret that Ford India is working on the new-generation Ford Figo, which was initially rumoured to be set for a mid-2015 launch here. However, from the looks of it, the all-new model just might arrive much sooner than that. I'll tell you why. The Figo has always been among the top-sellers for Ford in India, with a monthly sales average of 1500 units per month. In December, 2014, however, the company managed to sell only 151 units, which is roughly 10% of the monthly average. This leads me to believe that the company might have started production of the new-generation model instead of the current one. The company is yet to make a statement about it though.
The new-generation model of the Figo will be produced at the company's Sanand, Gujarat based plant, which is most likely to commence operations this month. The other factor that convinces me of the new-gen Ford Figo's imminent launch is the fact that the company has already begun testing the vehicle in India. After the new-gen Figo, the company might also roll out the Figo-based sedan, which was unveiled as a concept prior to the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo in February, 2014.

The India-bound model will be similar to the one sold in Brazil and could come powered by the same engine options, i.e. the 1.4-litre diesel and the 1.2-litre petrol - that also do duty on the existing model. Furthermore, the company might also launch the new-gen Figo with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that also powers the EcoSport.
