2014 Volvo S80 facelift launched
Following the introduction of the facelifted S60 and XC60 last year, Swedish luxury carmaker Volvo has launched the facelifted version of its S80 saloon in India. The day also marked the inauguration of Volvo's first ever lounge at the terminal 3, Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. The launch event was held at the lounge itself.
Located at the entry of the departure concourse next to the information desk, the Volvo lounge is spread over an area of 925 sq ft. Volvo with this new lounge focuses at offering a place to the travellers for relaxing before boarding boarding a flight, and at the same time informing the customers about concepts designed at Volvo Cars. The lounge comes with Volvo Retail Experience (VRE).

Volvo will put its cars for public display at the lounge entrance accessible for all the travellers. However, the entry into the lounge would be only be by invitation, through Platinum and Gold cards provided to the Volvo customers and VIP guests.

The facelifted S80 gets subtle cosmetic tweaks on the outside. It is offered in two variants- D4 and D5 priced at Rs. 41.35 lakhs and Rs. 44.80 lakhs respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi). The front fascia of the saloon has received the most visible changes. It gets a smaller grille, new headlamp design with daytime running lights and a restyled bumper to add extra character. The side profile looks identical to the previous car but the new design of the alloy wheels look a lot better than the outgoing model. The rear boasts of nothing other than a redesigned bumper.
Inside the high quality cabin, all the gizmos and functions are ergonomically laid out. The dashboard gets a newer 7-inch touchscreen and you get internet connectivity by using an internet dongle or an internet enabled mobile phone. The services available via internet connectivity include worldwide radio stations, full internet browsing, navigation, weather forecast etc.
The updated Volvo S80 is being offered with an option of two diesel engines. The D4 version is a 2.0-litre, in-line five cylinder engine that churns out a max power output of 163bhp and peak torque of 400Nm. The top spec trim (D5) gets a 2.4-litre engine that produces 212bhp of top power and 400Nm of top torque. Both the engines are mated to six-speed automatic gearboxes.
The new generation Volvo S80 features Pedestrian and Cyclist detection with full auto brake, digital instrument cluster with active TFT crystal display with 3 graphics theme - Elegance, Eco and Performance. Adding to it, the revised S80 also gets paddle shifts, LED daytime running lights, dual exhaust tail pipes and other ornamental items.
