2018 Yamaha FZ-S FI Launched With Rear Disc Brake; Priced At Rs. 86,042

- The FZ-S rear disc brake version is priced at a premium of Rs. 5000
- The 2018 Yamaha FZ-S FI also comes with the new Armada Blue shade
- The 149 cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine gets no change on the FZ
Commemorating 10 years of the FZ series, India Yamaha Motor has introduced the updated FZ-S FI motorcycle in the country with a new paint scheme, body graphics and the option of a rear disc brake as well. The 2018 Yamaha FZ-S FI is priced at Rs. 86,042 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The FZ-S is one of the more popular sellers in the 150-160 cc segment and is now more equipped to take on competition from the Suzuki Gixxer, Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 and the Honda CB Hornet 160R. The bike also now available in the all-new Armada Blue paint scheme.
The 2018 Yamaha FZ-S now uses a 220 mm hydraulic single rear disc brake, in addition to the 282 mm front disc brake for more effective control. While cosmetic changes aren't in plenty, the motorcycle does get a sporty alloy wheel design along with a completely new mirror design.
Speaking on the launch, Yamaha Motor India - Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Roy Kurian said, "The legacy of Yamaha's FZ series in India is all about the inheritance of a unique motorcycling passion. Immensely popular with Indian bikers all the way through almost 10 years from the day it was launched in India, and winning over a million hearts, it was crowned to become the 'lord of the streets' by the collective culture of the country's motorcycling. While its best seller features like build and appearance, superior engine technology, fuel mileage and suspension are retained, the new additions will excite the present and new customers."
Mechanically, the 2018 Yamaha FZ-S continues to use the 149 cc, air-cooled, fuel injected, single cylinder engine tuned to produce 13 bhp at 8000 rpm and 12.8 Nm of peak torque at 6000 rpm. The motor comes mated to a 5-speed transmission. The Yamaha engine also comes with Blue Core technology in order to achieve higher fuel efficiency on the bike.
Suspension duties are performed by telescopic forks up front and a monoshock setup at the rear. The muscular design theme continues to be a strong point on the FZ-S and it was one of the first bikes in the segment to actually feature fuel-injection as standard.
While the FZ-S gets a mild update for 2018, Yamaha India is expected to introduce the new generation YZF-R15 later this year possibly at the Auto Expo. The model will be a complete overhaul and is expected to carry a few segment first features as well. The 2018 Auto Expo could also see the updated R3 making its debut.
