2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 Global Debut Next Week

- 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 global debut next week
- Based on the Triumph Trident 660; Likely to get the same frame, engine
- Will be launched in India next year
Triumph Motorcycles is all set to reveal the Tiger Sport 660 on October 5, 2021. The good news is that the middleweight adventure touring bike will be launched in India as well, possibly in the first half of 2022. The Tiger Sport 660 is based on the same frame as the Trident 660 and gets the same 660 cc triple engine as well. Triumph gave a peek into the looks and design of the Tiger Sport 660, by putting up a photograph of the front end of the motorcycle on social media. The focus with the Tiger Sport 660 is on touring, rather than off-roading. Triumph has confirmed that there is a Tiger 660 Rally in the works, which is likely to be revealed in 2022.

Going by the photograph, the motorcycle does seem to be production ready. In fact, the face of the motorcycle reminds you of a certain 650 cc adventure touring motorcycle from a Japanese manufacturer. Triumph Tiger Sport 660 sports a half-fairing design with a tall windscreen, underscoring the adventure touring design DNA of the Triumph Tiger family. Compared to the Trident 660, the Tiger Sport 660 should have a more upright riding position with taller handlebars, and better wind protection for long hours in the saddle, suitable for touring.

(Like the Trident 660, the Tiger Sport 660 is also expected to get two riding modes, slip-and-assist clutch, switchable traction control, and ABS)
It is likely to share the engine, chassis and swingarm with the Trident 660. On the Trident 660, the inline three-cylinder engine makes 80 bhp at 10,250 rpm and peak torque of 64 Nm at 6,250 rpm. The Trident 660 gets a service interval of 16,000 km (or 12 months), and comes with unlimited mileage warranty for two years. The same is expected to be offered on the Tiger Sport 660. At this stage, we're not sure if Triumph has continued with the same state of tune, or made any changes to the engine to suit the touring credentials of the Tiger Sport 660. In all likelihood, the state of tune of the 660 cc engine is expected to remain identical to the Trident 660.

(The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 shares the same basic platform as the Trident 660, but gets more comfortable ergonomics, a half-fairing and a windscreen to aid in better touring ability)
The wheels are 17-inch units up front and at the rear, and are shod with Michelin Road 5 rubber, just like the Trident 660. Suspension is expected to be from Showa, with the same 41 mm diameter forks, but with some increased travel. We're not sure if the suspension will be adjustable on the Tiger Sport 660. Braking hardware is likely to be provided by Nissin.
When launched, the Tiger Sport 660 will go up against the Suzuki V-Strom 650, Kawasaki Versys 650 and the likes. We expect the Tiger Sport 660 to be priced competitively.
