Common Car Maintenance Mistakes That You Should Avoid

- About 900 million oil changes are performed by car owners per year
- There are approximately 30,000 parts in a traditional car
- The engine oil and tires are the two most basic things to be checked
To ensure a safer and more convenient driving experience, you need to pay proper attention to your car. Through regular maintenance, any issues that can affect the car's performance can be identified and corrected in time. In the long run, this practice delivers considerable savings to the vehicle owner.

Driving when the engine is cold
This is one of the biggest mistakes people make while driving their vehicles. It is advisable to not fully put their foot on the accelerator when the engine is cold. Drive slowly initially and let the engine warm up (keep an eye on the temperature gauge) before moving at full speeds.
Driving at reserve fuel
People tend not to refill the tank until the pointer points towards the tank being empty. Driving on reserve fuel is very dangerous. Driving at reserve fuel affects the injector and pumps while building up the air in the tank, so when the next time the engine tries to pull fuel, there is a lot of resistance to it.

Speeding over potholes and speed bumps
The main problem with speeding over potholes and speed bumps is that it damages the vehicle's suspension system. It is advisable to slow down and let the suspensions do their jobs while the journey is as smooth as possible.
Ignoring suspicious foul smells
If any strange smells are coming from inside the car, it is advisable to check that out immediately and identify the problem. The smell could be due to molds in the AC duct or electrical burning.
Not getting the oil replaced
It is advisable that after a certain distance traveled by car, the oil should be flushed out and replaced with new oil. That would ensure that the engine parts are not eroded by bad fuel quality and the car functions at optimum levels.

Avoiding low tire pressure
Always make sure that the tire is pumped up to the max and if that is not the case, get the air checked and refilled immediately. Low tire pressure leads to the tires wearing out very easily and the wheel alignment getting disturbed – that leads to the ball bearings and the suspension system getting destroyed.
Not checking the coolant level
The coolant is one of the most crucial components of a vehicle. The coolant is used to cool down the engine to work at optimum temperature. When the coolant is not up to the mark, the engine starts to get overheated, and that could lead to the engine wearing out completely and needing replacement – which is very expensive. The car indicates the coolant level, so make sure to keep track of that and get the coolant refilled regularly.
Not changing the air filters
The air filters are necessary components that should be changed regularly because a lot of particles get deposited onto them over time.
Regular maintenance can ensure that the car does not suffer from any performance-related issues resulting in a smoother driving experience.
