Pune-based electric vehicle start-up, EMotorad, will soon launch a new heavy-duty electric cycle specifically for the last-mile delivery segment in India. Christened the EMotorad Cosmos, the new electric cycle is slated to be launched in India in the next three months, and the company plans to introduce it as a replacement for internal combustion engine (ICE) two-wheelers that are currently used by a majority of delivery agents in India. The company says that the new Cosmos electric cycle will be a more cost-effective option for delivery companies and is claimed to help them cover a distance of 70 km travel for just Rs. 6.

Speaking about the upcoming Cosmos, Kunal Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO, EMotorad said, "India is a huge delivery market now. I have been involved with, in my previous company, all the delivery companies which we talk about right now, right from Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, Zomato we have worked with all previously, Had a huge experience in terms of providing ICE delivery bikes to them. Once we introduce it (Cosmos) that is one model which is going to blast big time because an average delivery boy spends around Rs. 200 a day on fuel, in which he travels almost 70 km. What I am giving him is an option to travel 70 km in just Rs. 6."

EMotorad's Cosmos will have a load-carrying capacity of up to 200 kg and an electric range of 70 km, which can be increased up to 90 km with pedal assist
The new Cosmos is built on a steel frame and comes with a 6-unit suspension setup, which includes the dual front forks, an under-seat suspension and four spring-loaded shock absorbers at the rear. The e-bike has a load-carrying capacity of up to 200 kg and a total weight capacity of 250 kg. It comes with a front basket, a wide floorboard, and an adjustable rear rack, which can also be modified to carry a pillion and is likely to get an optional backrest. The e-bike weighs about 47.5 kg and comes with a wheelbase of about 610 mm and a ground clearance of 250 mm while standing. In terms of features, the e-bike comes with a dual-LED headlamp, an LED taillamp and stop lamp, a wide cushy seat and a digital display that shows speed, distance and charge time. The e-bike also comes with segment-first indicators, along with a mobile holder and USB charger.

EMotorad currently manufactures its electric cycles at its production facility in Pune and is working setting up a second production line specifically for the cosmos ebike. Talking about the new production line Gupta said, "We are specifically putting up a line because we believe that the production capacity of this particular model (Cosmos) has to be kept separate. So, right now what we are doing is segregating these two lines in terms of delivery bike and the normal bike."

The battery unit is a 14 Ah Lithium-Ion battery that offers an electric range of 70 km and when combined with pedal assist the range can be extended up to 90 km. The battery can be fully charged from zero in 4 hours, and it comes with three different modes for power output. Braking performance is handled by dual extension drum brakes, and it comes with a top speed of 25 kmph.
