Swiss Police Replace Diesel SUVs With Tesla Model X Electric SUV

The Police Department in the city of Basel, Switzerland have replaced some of their diesel powered vehicles in favor of electric vehicles. But it isn't just any electric vehicle, Basel has chosen to replace these old and highly polluting diesel cars with the flagship offering in the Tesla range, the Model X SUV. This isn't the first time a police department has chosen a Tesla over conventional vehicles though. Police departments in Los Angeles, Denver and Luxembourg too have chosen the likes of the Tesla Model S in the past while the Ontario Police in Canada have also added the Tesla Model X in their fleet not too long ago.

While there are a few variants in the Tesla Model X range currently available, the Swiss Police in Basel have chosen the top spec Model X - the 100D. The 100D has the highest range in the lineup (alongside the performance version, P100D) making it perfect for police work. The 100 D offers a range of 295 miles or 475 kilometers on a single charge and still gets from 0-100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds. The Model X also has all-wheel-drive, perfect for low grip conditions like snow (which is a given in Switzerland) and comes with a 100 kWh battery. The Model X also comes with a 4 year warranty on the vehicle and an 8 year warranty on the battery and powertrain.

The Model X also gets space for seven people or if the rear seats are folded flat, a massive 2491 litres of cargo space. It also gets a panoramic windscreen and a 17-inch touchscreen on the inside along with features like ambient lighting. The Model X also comes with features like inbuilt LTE and wifi along with adjustable heated seats. The Model X can also be used as a tow vehicle with a capacity of 5000 pounds on the 20-inch wheel option. That said, as we have seen recently, the Model X has enough torque to pull a Boeing 787 Dreamliner!
