Volkswagen Virtus India Launch: Price Expectation

- The Volkswagen Virtus is all set to go on sale in India on June 9, 2022
- The Virtus is Volkswagen's second model based on the MQB A0 IN platform
- The Virtus will be available with two engine options & loaded on features
Volkswagen India is all set to introduce the Virtus sedan on June 9, 2022. The all-new offering replaces the Vento in the company's line-up and has significantly grown in proportions over that model. It's identical to the size of the erstwhile Volkswagen Jetta sold in India and promises a comfortable yet driver-oriented sedan with the Virtus. We drove the compact sedan a couple of weeks back and did come back quite impressed with what Volkswagen India had to offer. Do remember, the car shares its underpinnings with the Skoda Slavia and even the VW Taigun with plenty of overlap in the features department.

The new Volkswagen Virtus is based on the MQB A0 IN platform and gets extensively localised components to keep prices competitive. We expect the Virtus prices to begin around Rs. 10.50 lakh, going up to Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom), which will undercut the Skoda Slavia by about Rs. 50,000 on the base trim. It will also undercut the fifth-generation Honda City by a healthy Rs. 1.46 lakh, if launched at that starting price.

Do note that the new City comes loaded from the base variants, which helps justify its premium pricing. It also gets a bigger 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine as opposed to the 1.0-litre TSI on the entry-level Virtus. Apart from the City and Slavia, the Virtus will also lock horns against the Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in the segment.

The VW Virtus is expected to be fairly well-equipped right from the entry-level versions. Powertrain options will include the 1.0-litre with 114 bhp and 178 Nm and 1.5-litre TSI motor with 148 bhp and 250 Nm shared with the Taigun. Transmission choices will include the 6-speed manual and torque converter on the 1.0 TSI, while the 1.5 TSI will be exclusively available with the 7-speed DSG.

The Volkswagen Virtus is expected to be priced from Rs. 10.50 lakh onwards (ex-showroom)
On the feature front, the sedan will come with LED headlamps and taillights, 16-inch alloy wheels, ventilated front seats, climate control, wireless charging, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and lots more. The Volkswagen Virtus will be available across three trims and six colours upon launch. Deliveries will begin later this month.
