Pros Cons of Lexus ES

Pros

  • Stunning Looks
  • Good Amount Of Features
  • Efficient Hybrid Powertrain

Cons

  • Dated Cabin Design
  • Subpar Fit And Finish
  • Not Very Engaging To Drive

Verdict

The ES 300h is the only car in that segment that comes with a petrol-hybrid powertrain. The way it drives is smooth, and there's no doubting its stylish looks, because everyone on the road will stop and take another look at it. The level of comfort offered on the car is absolutely mind boggling. However, there's a lot to achieve for yet for Lexus in India like improving its service network, something that its rivals has and that's probably the only Achilles heel it has.

Pros Cons of Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Pros

  • The S-Class plug-in hybrid in India delivers a combined 435 bhp and 680 Nm of powertrain output.
  • Safety gets a serious boost with an advanced safety suite that packs 15 airbags as standard.
  • The 22kWh battery pack provides a fuel-saving electric-only driving range of up to 115 km per charge.
  • The upgraded cabin features a 13.1-inch touchscreen paired with dual wireless controllers for passengers.
  • An ultra-premium 31-speaker Burmester surround sound system is built directly into the new limousine package.

Cons

  • The price starts at a whopping Rs 2.20 Crore and goes all the way up to Rs 2.38 Crore.
  • Despite opening bookings immediately, deliveries only commence in Q4 of 2026.
  • The plug-in hybrid model is offered exclusively with a Rear-Wheel Drive layout.

Verdict

On paper, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class plug-in hybrid looks like an absolute masterstroke for the Indian luxury market. By marrying a silky-smooth 3.0-litre straight-six with a substantial electric battery, Mercedes is promising the holy grail of flagship motoring. Which is zero-emission city commuting alongside uncompromised, long-distance highway range. Add to that the unprecedented safety shield of 15 airbags and the cutting-edge MB.OS tech, and it looks poised to set a whole new benchmark.

However, the real test will be on the tarmac. We still need to see how seamlessly the complex hybrid powertrain behaves in bumper-to-bumper gridlock and how beautifully the standard AIRMATIC suspension handles the added weight of the 22kWh battery pack. It is an engineering marvel on the spec sheet, but we will reserve our final judgment until we get the keys for a comprehensive road test.
