Pros Cons of Tata Tiago

Pros

  • Four-star Global NCAP safety rating
  • Many powertrain options, including a CNG-automatic
  • Better suspension than rivals
  • Eight-speaker Harman audio system

Cons

  • The three-cylinder engine causes noticeable cabin vibrations
  • The AMT gearbox feels slow during quick overtakes or steep inclines
  • The cabin has no rear AC vents and a rear centre armrest

Verdict

For first-time buyers and small families, the Tata Tiago is one of the safest and most practical city hatchbacks available in the Indian market today. We agree that it’s quite vocal with the three-cylinder motor and the occasionally resisting AMT gearbox. But Tata Motors has addressed such shortcomings in its offering with class-leading safety features and structural integrity. Since there are multiple powertrains available, the car is also an attractive choice for different daily requirements or buyer budgets.

Furthermore, the cabin feels well put together, the audio system is brilliant, and the supportive front seat is appreciated. The suspension is ideal for local roads, keeping passengers comfortable over uneven terrain. Overall, if you want a safety-first car, a comfortable riding unit, and a functional package at an affordable price, the Tata Tiago deserves to be at the top of your list.

Jaideep’s review summarises,
“Yes, the Tiago does have some downsides, such as its ageing design, lack of flashy features, and the AMT feels lethargic, but these are certainly not deal-breakers. If you can live with these shortcomings, this is very much a car to consider for your city commutes.”

Pros Cons of Mahindra XUV500

Pros

  • Looks better than before. Facelift ups the premium quotient
  • Seats are well bolstered
  • More power available on the diesel

Cons

  • There's a hint of body roll
  • Low on power at lower rpms
  • Understeers when you take a corner

Verdict

Mahindra is offering some new colours on the XUV500 - Crimson Red and Mystic copper, both of which we did not get to see; but the Crimson Red looked promising on the presentation board. Mahindra will hope the refresh brings its customer base back into M&M showrooms and more importantly, back to driving the once popular XUV500.
