Aprilia SXR 160: Top 3 Rivals

- The Aprilia SXR 160 looks handsome and has a strong road presence
- It's also more comfortable compared to the Aprilia SR 160
- The Vespa SXL 150 & the Bajaj Chetak offer a retro Italian design theme
Aprilia India made quite the bold move when it introduced the SXR 160 in India last year. The new Aprilia SXR 160 shares its underpinnings with the SR 160 and is one of the few maxi-styled scooters you can get your hands on in the country. The scooter has a striking design, comfortable seat, is powerful enough and also well equipped on the feature front. Of course, it does command a premium in pricing at Rs. 1.26 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, the segment is a niche for scooters but there are a handful of offerings that compete with the SXR 160. Here's a look at the top rivals.

The Aprilia SR 160 shares its underpinnings with the SXR 160 but gets larger wheels, slimmer bodywork, lighter weight and a cheaper sticker price
1. Aprilia SR 160
The Aprilia SR 160 is a sportier sibling to the SXR 160 with models sharing the same underpinnings. Power comes from the same 160 cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that develops 10.8 bhp and 11.6 Nm of peak torque. It's also exactly the opposite of the SXR 160 offering sharper handling with the larger 14-inch wheels and slim bodywork. It's also lighter than its maxi-styled sibling. The Aprilia SR 160 is priced at Rs. 1.05 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Vespa SXL 150 is the retro-styled alternative to the Aprilia SXR 160 and also comes from the house of Piaggio
2. Vespa SXL 150
The Vespa SXL 150 is another Italian offering that is an alternative to the Aprilia SXR 160. The scooter is more retro-styled with ample Italian flare, while power comes from the 150 cc single-cylinder engine that develops about 10 bhp. It's also available in candy colours that further gives it a funky touch. The Vespa SXL 150 is priced from Rs. 1.28 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Chetak strikes a handsome pose with its smooth body and excellent build quality, while also commanding quite a premium
3. Bajaj Chetak
An interesting rival you'd say here. But with prices starting at Rs. 1.42 lakh (ex-showroom), the electric Bajaj Chetak with its Italian styling, comfortable riding posture, practical under-seat storage and strong build quality, becomes a rival to the maxi-styled scooter. It does miss out on offering the same range as the SXR 160 capable of running 95 95 km on a single charge, while power comes from a 3.8 kW motor that develops about 5 bhp and 16.2 Nm of peak torque.
