Car Modifications: Here's A List Of What Is Legal

Cars are not just assets, but hold special significance for people. Many motorheads like to customise their cars for the same reason- to make them more of their own and give it a personality. Unfortunately, heavy vehicle modification is illegal in India since 2019. But not all modifications are illegal. Here's a list of some cool and legal car modifications that you can go for:
Tyres and Suspension

Many people like bigger tyres on their cars as they can give it a performance boost. They also help get a bit more ground clearance which is ideal for Indian roads. Changing normal wheels to alloy wheels is also legal, and it is a trend which is winning over the Indian market. However, using smaller tyres than the stock size is illegal. It is also very dangerous for the drivers and others. The suspension for cars can also be changed to make it more comfortable and to suit it to your driving style. This is often done to enhance the performance of the car and not just its appearance.
CNG kits
Converting a petrol or diesel car to CNG using aftermarket kits is also a legal car modification in the Indian market. People mainly do this because CNG is much cheaper than petrol and diesel. As the fuel prices are consistently rising, it becomes a viable alternative, and it is also a cleaner fuel. Using a CNG kit however is a tedious process as one has to get an updated registration for the car as well.
Vinyl wraps

Vinyl wraps or body wraps are legal car modifications in the Indian market as they do not hamper with the structural identity of the car. Most external modifications that cover only the outside are permitted by law. Moreover, vinyl comes in various price ranges depending on the quality and the area which needs to be covered. Vinyl wraps on the roof of cars has been a popular trend in the Indian market as it not only looks good but also protects the paint of the car.
Body kits

Body kits are also legal car modifications as they are only cosmetic changes. Even manufacturers have started offering body kit-fitted versions of some cars as special editions. These have enhanced looks and style, and are in demand, especially among auto enthusiasts.
Minor accessory modifications and LED DRL's

Using accessories like rain visors and door guards on stock cars can be done without any legal hassles. Replacing your car's lights from halogen to LEDs is illegal but you can get LED DRLs for the car which can be useful during bad weather conditions and also look cool while consuming almost no power at all.
Some modifications which are Illegal in India are tinted glass, louder than stock horns and exhausts and extra bright lights. Anything which can alter the actual structure of your car is also illegal but there's plenty of legal car modifications which are allowed to make your car look good.
