KTM Teases New Track-Only Limited Edition Sportbike

- KTM teases 'secret' new bike to be unveiled on July 20, 2021
- New track-only sportbike expected to be a limited edition model
- New bike expected to be based on KTM's Moto2 chassis
KTM has announced that it will introduce a brand-new, track-only, limited edition sportbike based on its Moto2 racer. KTM has teased the new bike in its social media channels, but the teaser video reveals little about the upcoming new bike, apart from the fact that it will be a track-only model limited to 100 units. The new bike, will be introduced on July 20, 2021 as KTM prepares for its home round of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

The new bike is expected to be a limited edition model based on KTM's Moto2 chassis which was available till the end of 2019, before KTM decided to focus more on Moto3 and MotoGP, and decided to cease production of the Moto2 class racer. However, that Moto2 racer utilised a Triumph-sourced 765 cc triple engine (considering Triumph is the single-engine supplier of the Moto2 class), and a Honda CBR600RR inline four in the years before Triumph became the single-engine supplier for the Moto2 class.

If a limited edition model is indeed announced, its engine could well be an all-new KTM engine, in all likelihood the rumoured 490 cc engine which is expected to debut on the KTM Duke and KTM Adventure later this year. But so far, all this is just guess work, and even the 890 cc engine could well be used on the new bike, making for a potent package in the Moto2 chassis. More details will be announced on July 20, 2021.
