Locally Assembled 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class India Launch Highlights: Prices, Features, Specs

The new-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class was launched in India earlier this year as a completely built unit (CBU). About 150 CBU units were allocated for our market were fully booked. That's how popular the S-Class is in India but prices for the CBU versions were expensive. However, with Mercedes-Benz India all set to start the local assembly of the new S-Class at its Chakan plant, prices for the popular offering will come down by a substantial margin. At present, the S-Class S 400d 4MATIC is priced at Rs. 2.17 crore, while the S 400 4MATIC is priced at Rs. 2.19 crore. All prices are ex-showroom).

With local assembly, expect prices to come down by Rs. 30-35 lakh on the model. Just for perspective, the previous generation S-Class was priced from Rs. 1.50 crore for the locally-assembled model. So, the price hike is not too substantial. However, we will get the regular model assembled in India instead of the AMG Line that was introduced in the country specifically with the CBU version. We hope that Mercedes-Benz India offers the AMG Line trim option as a variant on the locally assembled model as well.
Other features will remain the same including the length and proportions. India gets the long-wheelbase version of the S-Class (V223) that is now 34 mm longer, 22 mm wider and 13 mm taller. The wheelbase has grown by a significant 51 mm over the previous model. The S Class has a drag coefficient of 0.22, which makes it one of the most aerodynamic cars in the world. While the CBU model was riding on the AMG Line 20-inch wheels with low profile tyres, the locally assembled S-Class is expected to get a size smaller wheels with comparatively tall profiles to suit Indian roads.
