Mercedes-Benz Reveals The 2018 S-Class Coupe And Cabriolet

- Both, the S-Class Cabriolet and Coupe, get new OLED taillamps
- The cars come with new steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls
- The S-Class Cabriolet and Coupe get Mercedes' COMAND infotainment system
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the 2018 S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet and we see visual tweaks made to both cars. It was just last month, that the company showcased the updated S-Class and so this move doesn’t really come as a surprise. Beside the updates to the exterior and cabin, Mercedes-Benz has also made changes to the engines and that’s a big change as we found out when we drove the S-Class recently. The updated S-Class Cabriolet and Coupe will be presented at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show which is a couple of weeks from now, but Mercedes has already given us a glimpse into what to expect.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet
Both the S-Class Cabriolet and Coupe get new internals for the lights, the front and rear bumpers are revised and there are a few tweaks to the dash with a single pane of glass enclosing the pair of 12.3-inch screens serving as the instrument cluster and infotainment hub. There’s also a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, something that we’ve already seen in the new E-Class followed by the new S-Class.

The highlight, however, are the OLED taillamps which feature wafer-thin layers of organic materials printed on a glass plate and made to illuminate. There are a total of 66 OLEDs inside each taillamp and this makes it look absolutely gorgeous. Of course the AMG line up of cars, the S63 and S65, get the tuner’s Panamericana grille, a design which we first got to see on the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R.
The powertrain line up is similar to what we’ve seen on the S-Class sedan. The S550 has been replaced by a new S560 which gets the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which delivers 463 horsepower and 700 Nm torques. The S63 gets the same 4.0 litre V8 but the power belted out is 603 horses and a massive 900Nm of torques. The S65 however, sticks to the 6.0-litre twin-turbo V-12, good for 621 horses.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet and Coupe both get the new OLED taillamps
All models feature a 9-speed automatic except the S65 which uses a 7-speed auto. The S560 coupe receives the all-wheel drive system, while the S560 Cabriolet is a rear-wheel drive. Over in the AMG garage, the S63 also comes with all-wheel drive while the S65 comes with rear-wheel drive.
As you would expect, there’s a whole bunch of updated tech that both cars get and we’ve seen these in the 2018 S-Class.

Mercedes-Benz S560 Coupe's Cabin
Both the Cabriolet and the Coupe come equipped with Mercedes’ latest COMAND infotainment system and yes, there’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration as also wireless charging.

We wait to see the cars in the flesh at the Frankfurt Motor Show and while we know that the 2018 S-Class is coming to India only next year, we hope to see these two versions too adding their pizzazz to the S-Class line-up in India.
