Tata Motors & Land Rover Working on Two Global SUVs

Apparently Tata Motors' board has given the go-ahead to the development of two SUVs with engineering assistance from Land Rover. If things go according to the plan, then the SUVs are expected to be launched in 2017.

    The rumours mills have been working over time about Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors developing vehicles together, primarily SUVs. Though Tata has refrained from taking up luxury vehciles, leaving it up JLR, till now, word in the industry has it that the two companies will soon start working on vehicles together.

    Apparently Tata Motors' board has given the go-ahead to the development of two SUVs with engineering assistance from Land Rover. If things go according to the plan, then the SUVs are expected to be launched in 2017.

    The new SUVs will reportedly be built on a platform shared between Land Rover and Tata, and house JLR's Ingenium engines under the hood. Furthermore, the British luxury carmaker will help tune the SUVs' performance and handling and the new models will use about 50 per cent parts from the current Freelander.

    The idea behind the new 5- and 7-passenger models is to attract buyers from across the globe, especially from Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
