Honda Cars India has launched the BS6 compliant version of the Civic diesel in the country. The updated Honda Civic Diesel BS6 is priced from Rs. 20.75 lakh for the VX trim, going up to Rs. 22.35 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi) for the range-topping ZX trim. Compared to the BS4 models, the VX trim has seen a price hike of Rs. 25,000 while the ZX gets a hike of just Rs. 5000. The diesel variants of the sedan were pulled off the market in April this year with the transition to BS6 norms but the engine has now been upgraded to meet the new regulations and will be sold alongside the petrol model.

The Honda Civic is one of the most recognisable nameplates across the globe after it was originally introduced in Japan in 1972. The Civic range has over the years expanded into a sedan, hatchback and even a station wagon. While the car continues to be popular across Europe and the US, it has been discontinued in its home market Japan. According to a recent report by Automotive News, Honda Japan has decided to pull the plug on the Civic sedan owing to weakened popularity of the model in recent years. This is for the second time the sedan has been discontinued in the country after the Japanese auto giant has temporarily retired the car from its line-up in 2010, before resurrecting the model in 2017 with the tenth-generation version.
