Honda Civic Receives 2400 Bookings In 40 Days

The Honda Civic was introduced back into India after a gap of 7 years and though the company skipped a generation for the Indian market, the badge is finally back and it's come to reclaim lost glory. In fact, it's off to a great start, Honda Car India has confirmed to carandbike that the sedan has already received over 2400 bookings. While it may be a small number, it's quite a good one for the overall sales in the segment for the past 5 months. The 2400 bookings for the Civic were received in just 40 days and well, that's just shows how well the customers have responded to the badge.

Despite the popularity of SUVs in the same price bracket, the new Honda Civic is off to a good start
The Civic is produced at the company's production plant at the Surajpur in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Honda has a capacity to produce up to 100,000 units every year. It has seen several expansions over time and has been around since 1998. In the past it has also made cars like the Accord and previous Civic and it now produces the Civic, CR-V and City. Honda's second plant at Tapukara in Rajasthan's Alwar district has a 180,000 units capacity, and makes the Amaze which has proven to be a big hit for Honda, its second success the WR-V and its alter-ego – the Jazz, the BR-V and also some units of the City. Production of the Brio has been stopped of course.

But it's the Civic that's gaining a lot of traction in the country. Currently sold in more than 170 markets, India is only one of 10 of those locations where the car is made. India, though, gets only the sedan and not the hatchback or even the Coupe, but not all of these 10 locations produce both the petrol and the diesel and India holds that distinction. The production of the diesel variant at the company's plant in Greater Noida is about 20 per cent and the petrol still holds the bulk of the production with 80 per cent and that's solely because of the demand the company has seen in terms of its bookings.

Of the confirmed interest it has received, Honda says that the petrol accounts for over 85 per cent of the cars booked. And within that the top end ZX variant has the most demand too – as much as 70 per cent. We hope the Civic manages to keep the momentum going as it could spark the comeback of the midsize sedan. The segment bestseller is the Toyota Corolla which is now feeling the heat from the Civic. The Skoda Octavia and the Hyundai Elantra are the other rivals in the segment. Nissan, Renault, Tata, and Ford do not have a product here while the other absentee Maruti Suzuki will get its version of the Corolla by early 2020 as part of its arrangement with Toyota.
