22Motors Patents Hill Assist Feature For Two-Wheelers; A World First

In a world first, Gurugram-based 22Motors has secured a patent for a Hill Assist Control feature on two-wheelers. The electric mobility solutions start-up applied for the patent on February 7, 2019 and the same was granted to the company on May 9 this year. 22Motors describes the feat as an example of intelligent engineering, which will add to the customer safety. While the feature has been available on cars for a while, this is for the first time that a two-wheeler will get the same. 22Motors is yet to start the sale of its electric scooters though, having showcased it at the Auto Expo last year.
Speaking on acquiring the patent, Parveen Kharb, CEO and Co-founder – 22Motors said, “We often underestimate the dangers of riding uphill and while most four-wheelers are complete with safety features like hill start assist, we firmly believe that everyone has an equal right to safety. We felt the need to engineer similar technology for two-wheelers and we are thrilled that our commitment to deliver the best to our consumers has been recognised in the form of this patent. At 22Motors, rider safety is integral to our business and our products speak for our philosophy. This invention is yet another step in our journey to make premium products that are futuristic, powerful and practical.”
22Motors says the new feature will provide riders with a composed all-terrain journey while also eliminating any possibility of accidents when on inclined ground. On an incline, the hill-assist control automatically engages and stops the two-wheeler from rolling backwards. This, in turn, allows the rider a few seconds to accelerate forward. The hill assist feature will make it on the company's first offering 'Flow' when it goes on sale.
Apart from the new feature, the 22 Flow will also come with a reverse mode, cruise mode and drag mode. While the reverse mode will help in parking situations, the drag mode allows riders to continue riding the scooter during a breakdown at 3 kilometres per hour, which is the average walking speed, eliminating the need to drag the scooter. The company's offerings are supported by artificial intelligence (AI), lithium ion storage,Internet of Things (IOT).
