- New Honda Africa Twin gets throttle-by-wire
- New 7-level traction control system
- Revised ergonomics, lighter battery
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has unveiled an updated version of the Honda Africa Twin at the Auto Expo 2018. The updated Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin feature several updates, including the addition of riding modes, a lighter battery, and with repositioned instrument panel to allow riders to see the clocks more clearly from a standing position. Also new are auto-cancelling turn indicators, a throttle-by-wire system and an expanded Honda Selectable Torque Control System (HSTC).

2018 Honda Africa Twin gets throttle-by-wire, updated traction control and more
The new HSTC features seven levels of torque control, with level 1 for aggressive off-road riding and level 7 for more control in slippery conditions. The outgoing model has only three levels of traction control, and on the 2018 model, the HSTC can be switched off completely. There are three levels of power and engine braking available as well. Each riding mode offers pre-set combinations, suitable for different riding conditions. In all, there are four modes now, Tour, Urban, and Gravel with pre-set combinations, and a fully programmable User mode.
The airbox is longer as well, with redesigned exhaust internals for better mid-range response and sound. The output from the 998 cc parallel-twin engine remains the same, putting out 87 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 91.9 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. Other updates include wider footpegs, with thicker mounting plates and rear indicators now offer an emergency stop signal function. Also available as an optional extra is a quickshifter. The updated Africa Twin is expected to be available later in 2018. The current Honda Africa Twin retails at just over Rs. 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
