The BMW iX also features an active bonnet, which is raised by means of a pyrotechnical triggering mechanism as soon as the car's sensors detect a collision. The company says this creates a deformation zone that prevents direct impact between the pedestrian or cyclist and hard components in the engine compartment.
As for the upcoming BMW iX, the electric SUV will be launched on December 13, 2021, with deliveries to begin from April 2022. BMW has revealed the specifications for the India-spec model with the iX xDrive40 variant to be launched first. The model features the brand's fifth-generation all-electric powertrain that uses two electric motors, one on each axle. This variant of the iX develops 322 bhp and 630 Nm of peak torque. BMW promises a range of 425 km (WLTP cycle) on a single charge. Globally BMW also offers a top-end iX xDrive50 trim which offers a combined output of 503 bhp. However, BMW has not announced the availability of this variant in India.
