The BMW iX also features an active bonnet, which is raised by means of a pyrotechnical triggering mechanism as soon as the car's sensors detect a collision. The company says this creates a deformation zone that prevents direct impact between the pedestrian or cyclist and hard components in the engine compartment.

BMW has revealed the specifications for the India-spec model with the iX xDrive40 variant to be launched first. The model features the brand's fifth-generation all-electric powertrain that uses two electric motors, one on each axle. This variant of the iX develops 322 bhp and 630 Nm of peak torque. BMW promises a range of 425 km (WLTP cycle) on a single charge. Globally BMW also offers a top-end iX xDrive50 trim which offers a combined output of 503 bhp.
