Exclusive: Hero XPulse 400 To Get 421 cc Engine

Hero MotoCorp’s upcoming XPulse 400 will be built around a brand new 421 cc engine, carandbike has learnt from multiple sources. Test mules of the bike undergoing testing have been spotted in Ladakh, and while it has been widely reported that the new XPulse will be a 300 cc, carandbike has learnt that the upcoming adventure bike will be powered by a 421 cc single-cylinder engine. The Hero XPulse 400, as it’s likely to be called, will also be built around a new chassis and will have performance to challenge the KTM 390 Adventure. We expect the 421 cc engine to put out performance figures of around 40 bhp and 35 Nm of peak torque.

While Hero has been testing the upcoming adventure bike, which will be the company’s flagship product once launched, the sources revealed to carandbike that it’s still sometime away from launch. According to one source, Hero MotoCorp’s product development team is checking out several issues with the test mules which will be sorted out before going for final tests. While we expected the new adventure bike to be launched sometime in 2023, another source confirmed to carandbike that the XPulse 400 will only be launched in the second half of 2023, and not early next year as we had expected.
After the success of the XPulse 200 and XPulse 200 4V, and the strong market response to the entry-level adventure bike, Hero MotoCorp has been quietly working on the bigger, and more powerful XPulse 400 for sometime now. From what carandbike has learnt, it will still be sometime before the bike sees production, so it will likely take some waiting to finally see the production model. Before the XPulse 400 is ready for production, Hero will first launch its new 300 cc entry-level sports bike, which will take on the likes of the KTM RC 200 and the TVS Apache RR 310.
