F1: Las Vegas GP Night Race Announced For 2023

Formula 1 has announced a new venue to its race calendar - and perhaps the most iconic one - the Las Vegas Grand Prix. While the addition of a new GP in USA was speculated and we even brought you a report earlier, Formula 1 has finally announced the much awaited details of the brand new addition. What's most interesting amongst those, is that the race will be held on a Saturday night, and not a Sunday!

Las Vegas isn't new to Formula 1, with two Grands Prix being held in the 'entertainment capital of the world' in 1981 and 1982 at the car park of Caesar's Palace casino. However, Formula 1 will take on the famous streets of Las Vegas this time around, with the cars racing down the 2km long strip, driving past all the iconic hotels and casinos like the Venetian, Caesars Palace and the Bellagio.

The street circuit will be 6.12 km long and will feature 14 corners and 3 straights. The track layout is very free flowing, and F1 believes that the average speeds on the track will reach close to that of Italy's Monza. This will also mean that the cars will run a low downforce package on the track, and while that would mean that the DRS wouldn't be as effective as some other circuits, it will still deliver a competitive race.

"This is an incredible moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the US. Las Vegas is a destination known around the world for its excitement, hospitality, thrills, and of course, the famous Strip", said F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicalli. "There is no better place for Formula 1 to race than in the global entertainment capital of the world and we cannot wait to be here next year", he added.

A Saturday night race will also hugely add to the glamour of the event.

Formula 1 has decided to host the Grand Prix on a Saturday night instead of a Sunday, which will mean that the track action will begin on Thursday, with Qualifying to be held on Friday. The track will join Miami and the Circuit Of The Americas (COTA) in Austin, to host the third F1 Grand Prix in the country in 2023 season, but promises to be the most spectacular one.
