F1: Red Bull Getting Updates To Take On Mercedes, Reveals Verstappen

- The Dutchman has revealed that there are updates for the car incoming
- Mercedes has improved its competitiveness thanks to updates
- Red Bull has lost the lead in the drivers' and constructors' championship
In the last two races, Mercedes has put an end to what started looking like Red Bull domination with updates that have improved its speed. The new Pirelli tyres have also seemingly helped Mercedes more than Red Bull. Considering Max Verstappen's towering 32 point lead over Lewis Hamilton was wiped out in just two races, Red Bull is all set to counter attack Mercedes with its own set of updates.
''I think it's different at every circuit. We already knew from last year that we lacked power and overall had less grip. I think this year we have made big steps in both areas. Some tracks were good for us, on other tracks Mercedes was better. We've had a lot of good results, but we've also had some bad luck with the race in Baku and of course the last two races, where we lost a lot of points. So there is a lot to fight for," said Max Verstappen in the lead up to the Belgian GP.
''It's close to each other. I think Mercedes had the advantage the last two races with their latest upgrades, but we know we have some things in the pipeline as well. I hope that will give us some lap time'," added the Dutchman who is targeting his maiden world title and aims to put an end to a run of four consecutive world titles for Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen's comments are in line with a report by German publication Auto, Motor und Sport which said that Red Bull had a plan of bringing a number of updates. Red Bull will also face engine penalties at some point later in the season which will hand it grid penalties which is why it needs a performance advantage over Mercedes now that it is leading the world championship.
Red Bull has said that it will keep continuing to develop till the end of the year if needed unlike most teams as they are focussing on the major regulation changes coming next year. Mercedes has already revealed some updates but it is not known if it is continuing development after the series of last few updates. Ferrari is slated to bring its last major update to engine later this year at either the Italian or Russian GP.
