Former Tata Motors Chairman Cyrus Mistry Dies In A Road Accident

- The 54 year old was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai
- He was ousted from Tata group in 2016
- In 2012 he became the 2nd person to become the chairman of the Tata Group to not be from the family
The former chairman of Tata Sons and its subsidiary Tata Motors Cyrus Mistry passed away in a road car accident while he was traveling back from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. The road accident reportedly happened in Maharashtra’s Palghar on Sunday afternoon. His Mercedes crashed into a divider of the bridge over Surya river, leaving 54 year old Cyrus Mistry with fatal wounds and the two other passengers - including the driver - injured.
The other two injured passengers were taken to a hospital in Gujarat, where they are undergoing treatment. “The accident took place around 3.15 pm, when Mistry was traveling to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. The accident took place on a bridge over the Surya River. It seems an accident,” PTI quoted a police officer as saying.
Survived by two children and his wife, Cyrus Pallonji Mistry was chosen to lead Tata Sons after Ratan Tata stepped down in 2012. He was made chairman based on his representation from the Shapoorji Pallonji group, the largest shareholder in Tata Sons. He first joined the Board of the group in 2006 when his father Pallonji Mistry, the chairman of the Shapoorji Pallonji group retired.
But in October 2016, the board of Tata Sons voted to remove him from the post of chairman which resulted in an ensuing legal battle.
