Honda Announces Electrification Plans For Two-Wheelers, 10 New EVs Planned By 2025


- Honda Motor Co. lining up 10 new EVs for global markets in coming years
- Aims to touch annual electric motorcycle sales of one million units in the next five years
- Plans to launch flex fuel motorcycles in India from 2023
Honda Motor Co. has announced its electrification plans for its two-wheeler business and the company is all set to go all out with as many as 10 new EV launches planned in the coming years. These will include a variety of electric two-wheelers including scooters, motorcycles, off-road and street bikes. The new launches will help catapult the brand's EV sales as it aims annual electric motorcycle sales of one million units in the next five years and about 3.5 million units or 15 per cent of total global volumes by 2030.

Honda announced that it has tied up with Thailand Post Company Limited and is conducting joint trials. The manufacturer will soon begin production of the Benly e electric moped in Thailand scheduled for later this month. The Benly e will come equipped with the Honda Mobile Power Pack (MPP) swappable batteries, which promise lower downtime, ensuring better last-mile delivery service.

Furthermore, Honda will be two commuter electric two-wheelers between 2024 and 2025. This will be targeted at Asian, European and Japanese markets. The company says there will also be a three fun-size EVs specifically for Japan, Europe and the US that will arrive in 2024-25. Honda will also introduce Kids Fun EV model, which is likely an electric dirt bike. Honda's electric two-wheeler range will be powered by new solid state batteries that are currently being developed in-house.

With respect to India, Honda has electrification plans in the long run but the company will begin by introducing flex-fuel motorcycles first in order to achieve carbon neutrality. The company plans to bring its first flex-fuel motorcycle (E20) to India by early 2023, and E100 flex-fuel models by 2025.
