What you’re looking at is Rinspeed’s Oasis concept. It’s a small hatchback developed primarily for urban areas that can seat two people and of course it’s pure electric and autonomous. The creator says that the Oasis concept can be described as the ‘trendy buddy of Star Wars icon R2D2’ due to its almost zero turning radius, which is why we said at the very beginning about it being for the urban areas.
Rinspeed will showcase this Oasis Concept in January 2017 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, so yes, it’s a bit too early to the party but well, it’s all about getting it out first in today’s day and age, right? The founder and CEO of Rinspeed, Frank M. Rinderknech, said that the Oasis concept has been envisioned to fulfill duties not only as a personal car, but also as a delivery vehicle. He goes on to specify the EV is suitable to serve as a pizza delivery car since it has a special compartment in the back that can be both cooled and heated depending on what you need.
From what we can see of the car, there’s a lot of glass area; so there’s the large windscreen and see-through doors which not only look aesthetic but also provide good visibility. This comes in handy when you're driving or being driven in rush hour traffic. There’s no problem getting inside the car either as the Oasis concept comes with two sliding doors and this means you can park it in a cramped area and still manage to get out with ease.
The cabin of the Oasis concept provides the ‘ambiance of a modern-day family room’ and there are two body-hugging armchairs and a sideboard, to make you feel at ease. Now, remember we told you about it being autonomous? Well, when the car takes care of the driving on its own, those inside it can watch TV projected onto the big windscreen. Rinspeed has managed to provide two touchscreens which are mounted on the dashboard and this seems like it’ll give the occupants a chance to get a feel of the car’s functions virtually rather than having to push a button or turn a knob.
The company hasn’t yet disclosed any details about what powers the car, though we know that it’s an all-electric car. But what we can see in the picture are solar panels on the roof and this may probably be to prolong the car’s range.
